Fergie to retire (confirmed)

Jules, you may have a point but we do as well.

It took Laudrup one Season to win something with Swansea and he's hardly had better conditions than Moyes who's still not won anything despite the top fives, sixes and eights.

I don't think he is anything but a decent manager. Hardly world class material imo.

I could not believe this was happenin,' brother. It was crazy, man! I mean, I had just gone for another McDonalds, man! I thought: lightning ain't gonna strike twice - go an' enjoy the Big Mac you had to throw away the day before because of all that commotion! So that's what I did. And then I'm on ma way home, you know, munchin' on ma Big Mac, and then this crazy Scotch dude with a big red nose comes lurching at me, waving this bottle of moonshine in ma face, screaming, 'Ma name is Alex Flurgasund and I want to retire - lend me your phone!' So I had to throw away yet another Big Mac while this dude starts phonin' everyone in the whole wide world! It's CRAZY, man! I don't think I'm EVER goin' to be left alone to eat ma McDonalds!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

On a side note, im really pissed off, because about 2 weeks ago when they won the title I heard they had planned an open top bus parade, and i thought there and then he was retiring, I mean they never have a parade for a title, something didnt sit right, and I just had this sense he was off.
I bet I could have got 50/1 or some shit and I did fuck all.
Dooooouch.

Moyes is a good manager, but is he a winner??
He hasnt won a fucking thing yet.

There are better candidates out there

Honestly if utd do go for moyes then congrats to them for going for a British manager who has not won anything and needs a chance at a massive club

I get fed up with the so called big names getting all the press. Who knows if Pep or Jose could also get Everton into top 4 and above us 3 times.

You never know.

I wonder how much wishful thinking's gone into some of the amazing views about Moyes in this thread. "Not won anything" - is this supposed to be a serious criticism? He's taken a pack of junkyard dogs and turned them into a top six side. As for them wanting a "big name", they're going to find the fact that Ferguson's sticking around as a director a pretty big hurdle to cross when it comes to attracting the Mourinhos of this world. If it *is* Moyes I really hope those of you dissing the guy turn out to be right, but I'm a sod of a lot less confident than you that you will be.

I just think if we could hand pick the man to take over we would pick someone who has never won anything, never managed in the champions league and never had £35 million to spunk on individual players. Fingers crossed.
There is a huge difference between lowering expectation so everything you do is seen as over-achievement and dealing with a job where very decision you make is scrutinised on rolling 24 hour sports news. The knives will be out by Xmas if he fucks it up. Ferguson got four years of winning nothing to get his regime started. Pretty sure Moyes won't get the same.
Anyway, fuck him, all this love on here for him makes me sick. He's a classless prick.

I see absolutely no point in worrying about which possibly great manager they get in his stead, they are officialy losing a great manager and I for one am fucking delighted. He may have been old but he was a venomous ol cunt and so much of what was great about them came directly from his desire to win. I hate him and im de-fucking-lighted he has gone but sadly he went having done everything he said he would and more.... he did a proper job on us and i'm sporting enough to recognise a great enemy...

Now fuck off you absolute cunt.

Let's knock that bunch of cunts of that perch he made for them.

Couldn't agree more, I mean when was the last chance a British guy with no previous success was given a chance by a big club from the north east of England, its always these damn foreigners.

I wouldn't describe him as world class material either, but that's different from saying he's not good enough to do the ManUre job. I would argue Swansea *were* at a more promising stage than Everton when Laudrup took over, with more talented players playing a better brand of football. Besides, my bet is ManUre don't actually want "world class" at the moment, not with (a) the winning machine they've created at that club and (b) Ferguson still around to cast his shadow over the new guy. All said new guy has to do is keep things on an even keel and Moyes is defo capable of doing that IMO.

Some bloke on radio was saying how lucky Fergie was. Inheriting the great youth team, getting cantona when he tried to sign Chapman, Leeds said no but what about Eric. The Munich CL final .

He listed loads more. Interesting.

It isn't love for him (or for any blueslime manager if it comes to that). It's recognition of the fact - and it IS a fact - that he's done an amazing job getting that lot where he has despite some pretty thin playing resources, little money and a clown of a chairman.

Credit where its due but I'm not that keen on the 'would he have done it without money/at a smaller club' theory/question. Its a case of horses for courses imo. There are those who are suited to battling relegation (successfully), those who gets team to 'over-perform', those who 'wheel and deal' to great effect and those who shit throphies (at 1st time of asking).

BBC saying Ferguson admires Moyes having the same dignity as him. Hilarious.
Well, I guess we'll see what happens if it happens. Let's put it this way. I for one would rather see Man Utd managed by Moyes than Man Utd managed by Ferguson.
He's done alright with, as you say, limited funds and a clown of a chariman, but lots of managers have won something with not much cash in the last ten years and he aint one of them.

I don't think any of that's true.

It's important to have the club philosophies match with the traits of the manager. See how Swansea have done that - so when a manager change occurs not much else changes.

I don't buy the theory that someone who managed a mid table club can't manage a top club. There are different pressures no doubt, but in many respects the job is easier. You've got more resources, you've got a deeper squad etc

Double edged sword at times. You've got more disgruntled players, higher expectations to deal with and monkeys ready to jump on your back. Like I stated, not discrediting what 'mid table' managers have achieved/can achieve. Just that its not necessarily as simple a task to make the step up to a higher level of management. Of cos there are those who can do it, but not all can. Will be interesting to see how he does though (although I'm obviously not wishing him luck as a Liverpool fan 😛).

Apparently Wriggley's have projected losses in excess of £1.2 million by the end of next season.

Look, Moyes is a good manager. There is no doubt about that. But he's been in a job without expectations for 10 years. Now he'll be expected to win every game and play some nice football. Both of which hasnt been of any concern so far in his career.

The set up is there, the squad is amazing, the stadium, scouting network and coaching staff. But if someone showed me a stat which said he'd never won an away game against those top sides I'd be vary of his tactical approach. In the end it doesnt matter. But I think Utd loses that edge they've had in Fergie and they're replacing him with someone whose never won anything.

It could work obviously, but I think Moyes will find it tough.

If Moyes does take over it will be just a stop gap until the replacement they have in mind is ready.

Does Giggs have his coaching badges yet?

You'd have thought the metro, despite being a London paper, which rarely reports anything positive from the north, and despite there being the biggest London derby in years tonight, you'd have thought they would have at least dedicated the front and back page to this news.

I won't believe it until Eamon Holmes explodes. I don't care what you tell me, I need Eamon Holmes to explode.
