Ex-Reds you still can't stand

You ever hear of the £1 game 'Razor' Instigated? Something like you hold a £1 coin in your hand and pass it on to the nearest player while the match was being played. The one left holding it at the end of the match foots the bar bill........ Fucking fat twat, Corden loving cunt. Still, he owned Cantona with the collar thing. That was fucking funny.

Yep. He was/is such a dickhead.

Oh, and which one of the spice boys was it that waved a wad of cash in Thommo's face at training one day, when he questioned their desire to do what it took to win trophies..? Him. I fucking hate him. McAteer, no?

Can't remember, I know Phil had run ins with both David Thompson and Fowler.

The Tennants story is standard behaviour. But don't you dare besmirch Lovely Xabi!
Maybe the tightness is a cultural thing. Or he forgot to tip. Or had no change. LEAVE XABI ALONE

Cultural I would assume. I moved furniture in NYC for a summer and on my first day I was told to never expect tips from Spainish or Jewish people as they never did.

Granted not a huge sample size

He walked in with no booking, the restauarant was full. We got him a table by moving people around (which they were happy to do).

3 course meal with his tart, ate every fucking morsel of food. The bill was £88.00. He gave me £90.00, I went back with the £2 in the cash tray, he picked it up and fucked off out.

Cheeky twat.

I love this story 😀

Im surprised cos you've gone out your way for someone to get them a table when there wasn't any available, served them great food which they had really enjoyed, and pretty much waited on them all night long cos they are famous. And then they don't tip. Not even TWO FUCKING POUND. Fucking minge behaviour that.

I love the phrase about judging a person not by how successful they are but how they treat hospitality staff.

Xabi sounds like a prick

He was actually a very underrated passer of the ball... When he was arsed, he could ping it 40 yards on a sixpence.

His header against Utd and his 40 yard ball to boyrnebye (spelling) for Fowlers wonder goal against Brann will be what I remember him most for.

Oh and his interview on MOTD talking about CL football and how great it will be. We lost to Wimbledon and drew weds and missed out.

He Lovrened it

He was nowhere near that bad. In fact, he was very useful for a few years.

The own goal in the CL semi final didn’t help or the fact he took a million shots for every screamer he scored.

He admitted himself he got complacent and didn’t work hard enough after Istanbul

Yeah he faded big time and went a bit shit.

But he doesn't deserve to be lumped in with one of the worst players to ever play for us.

Watched Reds V Newcastle '97 (the second 4-3) highlights today and was reminded what absolute dogshit David James was. Couldn't stand the prick and time hasn't softened my feelings.
Dean Saunders was another one.
Who still makes your mad years after they've retired?

I didn't dislike James to the extent you did nor indeed Saunders. Hatred is a term I can't really apply to any former player apart from Diouf...

Konchesky was a fucking shambles but then we all knew that before he signed and in truth I disliked Hodgson more than any of the players, Hodgson was under the illusion that because he'd done alright at Fulham and in Sweden he was deserving of his post at Anfield... No... he wasn't... his performance with England illustrated that nicely.

Balotelli was clearly an utter dickhead, lots of ability but with zero interest in the game.

McManaman was one of my favourite ever players at the time who then fucked off on a free, but he did win the European cup so...

I was gutted that Torres left for Chelsea but his hammys had been torn when playing for Spain twice in a row and he was on the way down when we sold him and he was never the same player for Chelsea as he had been for us so I afford him some forgiveness... the cash we got from his sale was useful also Carroll signing aside, Suarez was a boon.

Julian Dicks maybe? signed in on a big fee and was completely shit... he never played much for us so... hatred .... nah... just nothing...

I don't "hate" anyone...

Diouf was shameful for our club and cost a lot of money ( at the time ) and did fuck all when in place and we signed him in place of a really good player so... Diouf.

I think we might be talking about JAR here...

As soon as he was subbed on the fans became as nervous as he clearly was and it was a shame because I think we would have won the CL outright if he had not have fucked up in that game...

But he was bang out of form and had been all season, God knows what had happened to him really...

In a list dedicated to players we "hate" JAR is certainly not on my list, he was a good player on his day and he had a few of them, yes he did cost us that Semi against Chelsea but then he also laid in the cross for Stevie's bonce in the final a few years earlier.

I don't understand how some of these guys are still on tv representing Liverpool though. I have seen Mellor, Kirkland, Matteo, JAR etc all referencing Liverpool as "we".

JAR is just terrible on tv. He did a casual segment on Malaysian tv as a "Liverpool Legend" where I thought he was smug and obnoxious to the fans. I have even seen him on fucking CNN commenting about us in a post match review.
Toffee nose supporting Mcmanaman and Owen refers LFC as "we"

Was he fuck. He was part of one of the tightest defenses we ever had, he could attack and he scored hugely important goals. That like nothing like that Spanish chump, not even close. That sounds like something a rival Scandinavian would say.
Thanks Mark..how anyone can compare Riise to Moreno is beyond me. I even recall that there was some speculation that Chelsea wanted him from us at one stage.

If that is the new criteria, then there's fucking loads of players I hated playing for us, but I didn't really hate them (again, apart from Diouf).

But I suppose it's hard to discern where hating the player and not the person starts and finishes. So, as an example I used earlier, Peter Crouch is a really nice person, but I fucking hated the fact that he played for us and as a player.

Is this thread just really about "which players did you think were shit and still think are shit?

I am surprised that so many seem to hate Riise. I don’t recall anyone hating him at the time. He was a great player. Unless he is a massive twat in real life?

Less surprised to see Ruddock mentioned. I actually didn’t mind Ruddock at all. I thought he was a decent player. Clearly he fitted it well with the whole big drinking thing but he wouldn’t have forced the others into it, and he didn’t perform worse on the field than anyone else.

I didn’t say it was rational!

But I did dislike him. He always struck me as a bit of a brainless self obsessed kind. A bit like our dear friend Moreno.

Riise is a special character. He did well footballwise on his career. Much different than Moreno. He moved out as 17 y.o. to Monaco. He was a bit of a victim for being bullied in his youth so I guess he compensated by training and training. He did well at Monaco, and was on his way to Fulham when we snatched him from under their noses.

Early days here I think he did well. Scored some nice goals, but also worked hard. After Istanbul the success probably went to his head more than it had done and I for one was quite unimpressed with him that following summer. I hoped that becoming 5th in PL inspired the guy(s) to use the summer to reload batteries and have a better og the coming season. Instead he drove around Oslo in a Ferrari trying to get as much attention as possible. So for me his career took a turn that summer.

He clearly has had his ups and downs on and off the field. Especially off the field he has had difficult times. Maybe it is based on his early years, but he is really driven around media attention. He seem really daft the way he ends up in silly situation and try to get media coverage while doing it. It also must be amentioned that halfway trhough his career he was in Heavy debts. He took his agent to court for wasting his cash, but lost heavy. So not sure how much he had after the career as the best years were gone.

I don't feel hate against him, but to me seeing all these stories and new career paths it is a bit cringeworthy. He pops up so often With a New career path, changes after a few months to a New one and every time it is the same story. A few months back he launhced a career as a football agent. A few weeks later(or was it before) he launched his aim to become New Rosenborg Coach. Last week he was launched as Sporting director of a Malta based football Club. Also over the last years he suddenly resigned for his chilhood Club (which he had argued with since the move to Monaco 20 odd years ago) and claimed that all wounds were healed, only to (again) put and end to his career a few weeks later blaming every man and his dog on how amateurish the club was.

So no reason to hate, but fucking hell, he should give us a rest. He ain't as important as he believe.

As the heading said ex-reds you still cannot stand, I went with that.
Cannot see where their ability necessarily comes into it.
I just listed those I think are bellends. Then there is woy, but I have tried to forget all that.

Scored some crackers for us and a hat trick against Arsenal. Good enough to avoid the hated

Wasn't his mother his agent at one stage? I think I remember he fired her.

She was his agent in the very start of the career. So she represented him when he left for Monaco as a teenager. She was a real character too. It is easy to see where he got his less brighter side from. But when he went broke the agent was another guy. It all looked messy and dodgy, and I don't know what really had happened, but the agent was cleared and I think Riise was around 2-3 M pounds into the red at that stage.

Agree with most of this but I'd take a slightly different view about Julian Dicks. Others have referred to the fact that when Ruddock could be bothered he was actually not a bad footballer (it's easily forgotten that he started out as a midfield player) and Dicks too had a sweet left foot when he wasn't using it to kick ten bells out of someone else. He also made me a tenner when "Private Eye" published this cracker of his which I submitted for their "Colemanballs" column:

"Once you've had bull terriers you'd never want any other dog. I've got two bull terriers, a Rottweiler and a bulldog."

On the subject of Riise, while I don't get any dislike aimed at him I didn't rate him as highly as some other posters (whose opinion I respect) seem to do, not at fullback anyway. Opposition teams regularly targeted his wing because he had a bad habit of getting stranded upfield, and he was lucky to play outside one of our greatest ever CBs - big Sami pulled his fat (and ours) out of the fire on innumerable occasions. I've always thought Riise would have been better at LM.
