Everton v Liverpool - Match Thread

That's ridiculous, if he wasn't concerned about the foul then why did he look at the offside. The ball was out of play, so if not for the foul the offside decision makes a no difference

Here's the tweet from ESPN again.

I don't know how tweets work, but this is the relevant part:

Had it confirmed that the VAR, David Coote, did NOT check for a red card. Appears he was too concerned with the offside. #EVELIV

Klopp looked angry post match and chose his words carefully. Thiago could also be injured.

I do feel slightly better after seeing this

Although the placement of the line on the shoulder still feels subjective and that perspective makes things very confusing

That is why Mané was adjudged to be offiside.
Why do the offsides surprise you? The rules haven't changed since last season. Millimetres count, we got away with it last season at Wolves. It's the Pickford challenge on VVD that irks me. 1-0 up to ten men and we would have squeezed the life out of that game.

The VAR ref had one job to do, and he only did half of it.

Even if it were 100% accurate I'd STILL think it was insanity.

The point of the offside rule is to stop attackers getting an unfair advantage. That's the principle which should always be kept in mind.

You can't gain an advantage by being a mm ahead of a defender at a split second in time. It's a total perversion of the spirit of the rule.

If the people implementing VAR are this fucking thick the whole thing is pointless.

Absolutely and i would even go further and say the spirit of the rule was always to favour strikers in case of a little doubt.
Mane is on the same line. period.

The rules haven’t but where the lines are drawn have changed. We all are perplexed why he wasn’t sent off. Gross incompetence is the only reason.

I've torn an ACL, and that looked textbook ACL to me. The only hope is that he walked off. Hopefully it's a mild strain and not a complete tear.

I agree. The picture of it looks like the knee was hyperextended in a way that the ACL is probably compromised.
Not for the squeamish

Any news on VVD? I can't see it being anything other than an ACL 🙁

Looks bad, then it'll be a couple days of bullshit speculation, then he'll be out for 3 months officially. Then things will go quiet, then after three months he still won't be back, then it'll be a month of pics of him on a bike or jogging with a smile, then he'll come back.

A couple of problems here.

1) Mane is closer to the camera, therefore looks like his shoulder is further forward the the foot of Mina.

2) The drawing of the lines are still relatively subjective.

3) When they drew the line appears to be subjective and wrong too. It looked at least 1 or 2 frames too late. The ball had already left Thiago's foot.

The most pathetic part is that sensible nuance is still applied to other decisions.

How many times have I heard, "oh there's contact but not enough to knock him over" or "you're never getting a penalty for that" - and then for those opinions to then be supported by the subsequent VAR decision.

The sheer incompetence of the refereeing there that a season ending tackle escapes any punishment whatsoever. I'm quite convinced that both the offside calls by VAR were also incorrect. Still fuming.

As for these Everton wankers, don't even get me started. A recurring theme with these derbys where these bastards wreck one of our players.

It is a good job the season will be suspended for 3 months again cos of the rona.

The decision not to sign a center back was very silly and now we are down to two for I don't know how long.

This game has probably ruined our whole season. Maybe we should just recruit 11 mma fighters for our next derby.

It was bad, could be any of the cruciate tbf as planted leg. The fact he walked off is a glimmer of hope

I've torn my ACL three times, and each time I walked off. The second and third time (which was the snapping of my first reconstructed ACL), in attempt to convince myself I had not done my ACL, I even did some plyometric exercises. I imagine his quads were doing a lot of work stabilising his knee in that moment.

Its impossible to know the extent of the injury to VVD, and seeing as he didnt look in to much pain when they assesed his knee on the pitch it could be just the knock that caused him pain.
Anything is possible at this stage.

With our luck he’s out for three months, but fingers crossed its weeks and not months.

Thiago telling Klopp after the final whistle that he think he got injured from the Richarlison lunge isnt good either.

Losing both for months would be horrific

Same, I snapped my ACL and walked off the pitch. I think VvD is gone for the season
