Everton v Liverpool - Match Thread

I can't believe they're still trying to measure offside to the fucking millimetre. It's absolute insanity.
Everyone acknowledged that the frame rate means things can be off by inches. It's absolutely crazy the way they're still using those stupid fucking lines to determine offsides.

The VAR official is David Coote. He's the ref who thought Lo celso shouldn't have been sent off last season in Chelsea v Spurs. Incompetent cunt

Referee: Michael Oliver. Assistants: Stuart Burt, Simon Bennett. Fourth official: Paul Tierney. VAR: David Coote. Assistant VAR: Lee Betts.

The offside is frustrating, but it should even itself out.

The Pickford red card is the real issue.

There's the ESPN tweet I linked which asserts that David Coote, was so concerned with getting to the bottom of the offside call, that he did not check for red card.

Even if it were 100% accurate I'd STILL think it was insanity.

The point of the offside rule is to stop attackers getting an unfair advantage. That's the principle which should always be kept in mind.

You can't gain an advantage by being a mm ahead of a defender at a split second in time. It's a total perversion of the spirit of the rule.

If the people implementing VAR are this fucking thick the whole thing is pointless.

The red card for a player who went on to save two very good chances for a goal?
TBF, their backup is probably better than Pickford.

Both errors are fucking abhorrent. One cost us the game though.

In fairness, I haven't got a fuck clue what an offside is anymore. Easier for me to see the assault on Virg as a red.

I'm not saying it wasn't a red card but Van Dijk still would have been injured and a goal 2 minutes into stoppage time against 10 men means we win the game. They're both bad decisions in my opinion but the last one definitely cost us the win whereas the other only might have.

That's ridiculous, if he wasn't concerned about the foul then why did he look at the offside. The ball was out of play, so if not for the foul the offside decision makes a no difference

The best Everton team in 30 years against us who were embarrassed by Villa. We dominated them and they reverted to type of just trying to (and succeeding) injure our players. They needed VAR not to do its job to get anything out of that.

They’re shit. They’re yard dogs. They’re fucking Everton.
