EURO 2020

My issue was more based on personality and on field antics. There's no doubt he can score a goal or two but he seems to developed a massive ego.

Nah. He's an absolute beast, but a flat track bully who consistently comes up short against the very best defenders. He's one of the best strikers in the world, but that's a far cry from the strikers of, say, 15 years ago.

It's a bit strange to point out his technique and flair, too. They're probably the two worst attributes of his game.

Watch that; great technique, wonderful flair especially when combined with his insane physical abilites.. he's the best striker in the world right now for me. With a margin.

I think he's fucking great. He's probably been the most complete striker in the world for a few years. Problem is, he's not a player who fits in to any system.
He won The Scudetto and is a pivotal player in the best International side in the world these past few years. I think to say he's not fitting a system is a bit of a push.

@Halmeister I dare you to watch that lengthy clip and then with open eyes claim that his technique and flair are poor/worst parts of his game.

He's just a very complete striker in terms of ability and physique.

Yeah. I haven't changed my mind watching that. Your last sentence sums it up. He's very good, I'm not denying that, but it's his power and physique rather than any outstanding technical ability that sets him apart. That clip was like watching a grown man playing against kids for the most part.

He's a great finisher, ridiculously quick and strong (though I thought he looked slow and sluggish last night incidentally against an aging Pepe). When he comes up against the top quality opponents, he seems to be lacking in the deftness that can set him apart as a true, true great.

As I said, he's one of the best strikers in the world right now, but who else is there really? Kane, Lewandowski, Haaland and...?

I thought he was rather poor to his ability last night. 4th game in a row within a fortnight, 32 degrees etc., not the easiest conditions for any of the players really.

I believe that he is up against top tier defenders in Serie A week in, week out, and as you say he's making them look like kids down to his sheer size and agility. I just don't think you can fault his techincal ability either.

Good close control, amazing first touch, powerful yet skillful finishing. I am so impressed with him and to be honest it took me a bit by surprise to learn he was THAT good.

Two things that bothers me with Lukaku, disregarding the fact that he played for Man U and Everton.

  1. Not a very good passer.
  2. Decision making is suspect.
Other than that. Top notch striker imo.

He's top notch - but I think if he was one of the best in the world, he'd have dominated at Man U ... but to dominate there, he had to do things that aren't the strengths of the game. If, as Conte showed - or even Everton, teams play to his strengths, he's up there with the best.

Yeah, this sums it up well. If you set up the team to his strengths, he'll dominate against most defenders. (I disagree with KHL's assessment that there are top defenders in Serie A).

In games and in teams where he's required to do more intricate, skillful build up, or when he comes up against cleverer defenders who can go some way to matching him physically, he'll come up short. His all round game isn't there, but it hasn't needed to be because he'll just dominate against 90% of teams. Suppose that makes him a top striker in itself, but I don't think he has the all round attributes to be absolutely top drawer.

It's worse, as when he doesn't dominate he doesn't just have a quiet game, he's an outright liability that costs you the game. The scum discovered this on a weekly basis in some of the best comedy I have seen in years.

It’s nice to see that all is as it used to be on here..

Dantes being wrong about probably everything for one!

Hyping up Dolberg worked because nobody had seen him except you. Hyping up Lukaku won't work, because we've all seen him for several years. God forbid england fluke their way into the final and are up against belgium, you might as well hand them the trophy, to save Lukaku from doing it instead.

@Kay Age El Every one of those Lukaku clips involves him running at a defense from inside his own half. If he ever were to be involved with a team that faced a low block every Saturday, perhaps he would be a different proposition?

In fairness, he can perform in those situations, but it's more difficult for him. Play the ball into his feet and he can roll a defender.

However, you're right. His movement isn't good enough in those situations. He's not going to come up with a bit of magic to unlock the defence. That's why I'm not as high on him as others are. He needs space to thrive and use his athleticism.

Lukaku best striker in the world ?

The more pertinent question is what has this world become ?!

Hillbilly?

That's an upgrade for a lot of people on here!

Good grief. If that's a banning offence on there, I'd give their mods 10 minutes tops on here before their heads exploded.
Do forums mods actually set the rules & policies of an actual forum site though?

But yeah, 7 days for "insult & abuse" allegedly, the little cunt deliberately posting negative tweets from the fuckers at the Echo not signing this player or that player etc & then going on to spend the whole day slating the owners for being skint bunch of cowards.

Always preferred the guys here at SCM anyhow.
