You've all been duped...
Didn't you notice that it seemed like Croatia didn't even want to win?

It's because the winner of this group plays the second team in Group F.
Yeah, the group with France, Germany and Portugal...

The 2nd placed team will probably play against Sweden.

They also subbed Rebic and Kovacic early. Two of their best players.
Yeah but if England finish 2nd, they'll not be playing in Wembley.

Pick your poison?

Actually thought we played quite well and Croatia, who are a dangerous team (6 starters played in the last WC final) never looked like scoring. Got to say that Stones & Mings were very steady.

Excellent : Phillips
Good : Stones, Mings, Sterling, Bellingham, Mount.
Average : Walker, Rice, Trippier, Pickford, Rashford
Shite : Foden (after a great start), Kane.

Walker was fucking bollocks.

😉
[article]Marcel Sabitzer is available for £15m this summer. Sabitzer’s contract expires in 12 months and there is no indication he will renew[/article]

The most amusing thing about Southgates post match presser was the selection of fucking beverages placed right in front of his face. The fucking state of it!

It's a bit of a bad tempered affair, this. Does anyone know if there's history between Austria and any of the Balkan countries? Any bad blood or something?

Definitely. Germany, Austria, Hungary (the last two were the inheritors of what had been the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which both my mum's parents were born into) and Bulgaria attacked Serbia and Macedonia during the First World War. Not sure of all the details but this is another of the many age-old Balkan vendettas.

Macedonia was never a part of the Austrian-Hungarian Empire. It belonged to the Osmanic Empire at the time of WW1. And these two empires were allies.

Balkan countries are massively nationalistic and this is where the hostile atmosphere normally stems from. I don't think history comes into it.

Didn't say Macedonia was part of the Austro-Hungarian empire, Bernd, but if the empire it did form part of was allied to Austria-Hungary that would surely redouble their sense of grievance at having been attacked by them, which they definitely were. Resentments last a sod of a long time in that neck of the woods.

Lampard at half time feeling proud that the players his promoted or brought in are doing so well, not realising his sacking actually let them win things
Surprised he never went full kit wanker when Chelsea won CL? Or maybe he did at home watching in TV

Gini looks a different player in orange than he did in red.
I wonder did we miss a trick not trying him in a different role.

I was joking! Been listening to a history podcast about WWI lately. I've always been a WWII man myself, it's one of those rare incidences when the sequel is better than the original. But I thought I would try and learn a bit about the first one. It's called hardcore history and this particular series is "Blueprint for Armageddon", well worth a listen. Although each episode is about 200 minutes long and there's 5 or 6 episodes.

I've listened to it before a few years ago and it seems I've forgotten most of it.

Always worth repeat listens that.

I tried the more recent stuff on Japan, but couldn't get into it

I liked it, the new one, episode 6, was released the other day. Going to have to download it for when I'm watering the plants.

I think my favourite is ghosts of the ostfront.
