Eriksen Twitter rumour

I remember Eriksen was excellent in games against City and Madrid. He didn't strike me as a "bottler."

He usually has great games against the bigger Dutch clubs as well. Not really sure where Best Believe It is getting that from. If anything it is his motivation in the smaller matches that is in question.

Rodgers also seem to favour Coutinho behind Sturridge as the AM.
He also said that it was his best position.

I'd rather sign someone who also can play as a winger and that adds a bit more pace to the team.
I like Eriksen but I dont think he's the best option for us right now.

If he actually is available for 10m-12m we really should go for him. He's not the superstar signing that we may crave but he'll be a wonderful option to have in the centre of the field. Henderson's the only midfielder that seems capable of scoring (bar Gerrard penalties and odd goals), yet I still have doubts about him being the goal scoring midfielder that a top 4 club needs, even as second choice. A classy, very young yet very experienced player would be very welcome in our squad.

I think it may simply be a case of Ajax wanting too much money for a player with only a year left on his contract. Seems quite loyal, and insists he won't leave the club on a free, which means he might sign a new contract should no offer come in, thus Ajax's stance.
Can't see any other reason why no clubs have gone in for him. Even the smaller clubs that could easily pay 10m or 12m for a player of his quality, if that was the price, haven't made an attempt at signing him. Has to be the price tag.

Not if they both turn out to be shit there isn't.

But a player turning shit on us is a chance we take on every signing anyway, and with Eriksen's age, reputation and cost, any selling on wouldn't be as tortuous (and torturous) as Downing's.

On paper, Eriksen seems a closer match to our playing style than Downing ever was.

Ajax also missed out on Van Ginkel and Adam Maher so at the moment it is either keep him or promote from the youth.

We should buy Eriksen for the simple reason that Barca/ PSG/ Monaco is going to buy Countinho from us next year for £65m and where will that leave us if we don't have ready made options. (Plus we'll need the Countinho cash to pay for Suarez's replacement)

I think this could be pretty much spot on.

It's been revealed that Shakhtar, CSKA and Dynamo Moscow as well as Leverkusen so far has all met Ajax' evaluation (rumored to £18M) but that the player himself wasn't interested.

AC Milan are said to going to meet their evaluation too should they qualify for the Champions League.

Rodgers seem to demand more energy and running in that role though. Can Eriksen provide that while doing his thing, or will the current tactics need to be altered to accommodate him?

Have to say he's looking to be an attractive option as the window winds down. If nobody swoops in, and since he hasn't signed a contract extension, we could land him on the cheap.

I know this has been answered but just to add further weight, he outrun everyone in last years Champions League group stage. Henrikh and Marchisio came 2nd and 3rd if I remember correctly.

Cheers for that. Sounding good, since I honestly have an opinion of him based solely on YouTube. Is he pacier than Henderson and Allen?

I'd rather we signed a goalscorer who plays between the posts and scores scrappy goals with all parts of his anatomy. The amount of chances we create is awesome. The amount we put away is piss poor.

Isn't Micky the Armenian an attacking central midfielder? If we'd have got him then surely Brendan would have pushed Coutinho out to the left anyway.

He's got pace to burn but he's no Enrique or Aubameyang. He's very quick on his feet like Allen and is quite a fast runner with the ball at his feet too.

Here's a decent clip of his skills and goals, that illustrates him quite well - as you can see a good few goals with a decent bit of running involved too. And then he can score from outside the box too, like Sturridge, Coutinho and Gerrard.

Just get Eriksen and we'll beed another CB to give us a balanced squad with options and matchwinners. We'll have plenty of creative options out wide and Ibe looks ready to challenge for a first team place.

Based on the players we've gone after it seems like Rodgers is after strong runners to complement our passers. Although Eriksen does have skill and can run with the ball, his game largely revolves around orchestrating play.

I'd take a punt on him if Ajax reduced the price to 10-12M and play either him or Coutinho out wide because the more talented players you have the better your odds are... but Rodgers seems to have a certain set of attributes he's after. Perhaps that'll change after this latest setback.

Yeah, but that was his top transfer target. Maybe he sees Coutinho as better suited in that role than Eriksen, who seem to be very far down his list - if on it at all.

For the nerds, his almost perfectly weighted dummy pass against Feyenoord in the weekend. 5:50 in.

I don't know why no one wants him but I'll tell you what I think it is.

He looks like Nicklas Bendtner when he smiles.
It's eerie and off-putting.

I'm getting it from reports from Dutch journalists whose names I can't remember/pronounce. Also a fairly in-depth interview with one on the Football Weekly last season, who said that he thinks Eriksen shouldn't move to a top club over here because he wouldn't be able to handle the pressure.

I have no real opinion on him myself as I've only seen him play three times.

He has only one year left and no "big" club has picked him up. Surely there has to be something wrong.

Would be prudent to have an alternative in someone like Eriksen though. We have been lucky so far that Coutinho has been injury free. We need to hedge our bets for this wee fellow playing as intensely as he does, getting doubled on by the lumbering enforcer-types of Stokes week in week out.

Most of the Dutch journalists I have read seem to rate him. He was second in Eredivisie player of the year as voted by Dutch journalists. I have no idea who was on FW but Johan Cruijff seems to think that a move up in level is exactly what he needs. Cruijff is sometimes bonkers mind.

It kinda reminds of the Kompany hype. Highly rated for years but nobody went near him.

So lets sign Eriksen and be done with this

It doesn't make sense ... as I said earlier, someone is going to get an already very good player, but one who's extremely motivated ...
