England expects.

I'm sure that Tyldesley just called the Egyptian's a "bit ragged" at the back. Racist...

Not very good, is it?

Gerrard and Rooney look like the only two capable of making something happen. They seem to really like playing together - imagine if Rooney had've come through our ranks... their link up play would probably be pretty sensational.

Walcott isn't good enough to be starting games for England at the moment.

That defence + goalkeeper is very average. The strength in depth that we seemingly once had in the CB department has really gone to shit.

It's not a very good team out, although they are capable of much more.

Like Liverpool, the movement off the ball is extremely poor.

There is also too many individual errors.

Walcott has been shite after a very lively first 5 minutes. Frank and Barry are anonymous, Defoe should have done better at least once and scored. They have pressed well, and found space far too easily.

Anyone know how Torres is getting on?

Is he starting?

Benched.

Nope, just sitting on the bench chatting.

It's France 0-2 Spain at HT, although far from a vintage performance by Spain. They've been very clinical (and a bit lucky) in front of goal, but above all they're brilliant at closing down space when their opponents have possession.

The only weak points in this Spanish side are: 1. Iker Casillas, who looks a bit shaky and is nowhere near as good as Reina at the moment; 2. Arbeloa, who is playing LB and has played EVERY SINGLE PASS backwards with his right foot; and 3. Xabi, oddly enough, who's misplaced several passes and been caught in possession at least three times - he seems to be in the kind of form that made Rafa want to sell him rather than the form that made Real want to buy him.

Villa scored the first goal, btw, and Sergio Ramos (with a deflection) the second. Kind of interesting game from a tactical and technical point of view, but at the same time pretty boring.

Been watching NED 1-0 USA; Kuyt got the goal of a pen but Elia (who keeps Babel on the bench) has been a bag of tricks with great pace, no final ball and mest up his 1-1 with the keeper though. He definitely reminds me of a smarter more ambitious Ryan Babel with more tricks and a good first touch.

Also Kuyt has been trying to play the CF role the way Torres does. I guess its nice to see but he can't do it and they;ve missed a presence in the box which Torres can do while also floating around and building up play

Israel won 2-0 against Romania, Yossi got the 1st goal.

Bunny - interesting about Xabi. I've been saying all season long he's been very average with Real. Maybe we can have him back next year.

Insane that they can replace so many 'best in the world' players with 'second best in the world' players.

In terms of sheer individual talent, I've never known an international side with so many gifted players. A few France and Brazil sides would run it close, but I reckon the current Spain set up edges it.

For £10m and only if he plays like last year...

Crouchy!!!
It will be a farce if he doesn't go to the WC

People bang on about Michael Owen, when Crouch goals to game level is way better, plus he's actually fit.

I don't think Capello rates him as much as he should.

Only £3. Had a fiver on Defoe first goal, and a both teams to score in the first half at 5/1 which fell obviously. Still a niiiiiiiiiiice profit to be made if England can press on and win this.

I forget that you are the older, sensible brother.

Well at 25/1, I wouldn't be going much more on it. I just had a spare £13 quid in the Skybet account, she is away all week in Leeds on a course, and I am bored.

isn't it about time we fucked heskey off? rooney has proven he can lead the line on his own and gerrard is one of the best forwards in world football so why the fuck do we still need heskey?
That's one of the silliest things you've ever said.
gerrard is absolutely one of the best players playing as the second striker/in the hole position in world football. name 5 players who are better. kaka is a gimme.
Rooney
Tevez
Rossi
Arshavin
Mutu (would have been Kaka, but since you claim he's a gimme.... And forget the drugs, his stats are phenomenal over the last few years.)

There's 3 departments Gerrard is lacking in to be considered one of the best in that position; finishing, ball skills and playing with his back to goal. He is and always will be a great midfielder masquerading as a good (that's all I'd say) 2nd striker. The fact that he's never as good without Torres says a lot.

Anyway this has turned into a match thread so I'll leave it at that for my opinion.
