Encouraging the Sturridge

So pleased for him and his goals, his assists, his all around threat. Made me pause and think today - does he owe Klopp for manhandling him about training for 10 days before allowing him to play? Is it too soon to declare that approach a success?

And do I care that he seems to be fulfilling the cynical fan's prophecy of getting fit and firing in time for consideration for the Euros this summer? No, I don't. But the thought still nags, and next preseason which will show up? Truly hope it's the guy we're seeing play now.

I hope he fires us to a European Cup, the CL and 5th in the league, then we can sell him to the highest bidder.

Studge should concentre on being fit and making himself available for selection.

Should be nowhere near captaincy

Sturridge isn't even remotely close to captain material.
Nor was Gerrard when we made him captain, either was Suarez, or were countless others, yet they got given a game, and there's nothing wrong with that. Sturridge is one of our longest serving players now, he's definitely a senior player, he's also, with Coutinho, our best player, he more than deserves a token game with the armband. It would be a fantastic moment for him, and you just know with all his god is great stuff, he'd probably lap up the moment and responsibility and use it to spur himself on even further. No ones suggesting he becomes our permanent captain, but he 100% deserves a token throw away game.

I'd rather we have a proper captain at the club, but out of Henderson and Sturridge as captain, I'd give it to Sturridge.

I feel like I'm insane for thinking sturridge would be a terrible captain.

I'd rather hendo have it. Hell, I'd rather mignolet have it

You deserve the captaincy when you act like a captain. At least Lucas communicates and tries to be supportive. Sturridge looked gutted when firmino scored the other day. That's not captain behaviour

Can will probably be our Captain in a year or two.

It all comes down to what type of Captain the manager want. The important bit is that the Captain never let his head drop. If the Captain gives up then the whole team have a big problem. We saw that when Gerrard sulked for months.

The Captain must be a very good role model on and off the pitch.

It's almost a chicken and egg situation for me as I really feel the responsibility and trust of the position could help that side of his mentality develop, however I would never ever suggest he became club captain, just the odd pointless game at the end of the season, like yesterday.

If he stays fit and show that we can trust him in the long run then we shouldnt even think about selling him.
He's such a quality player and just gets better and sharper from each game he plays.

Klopp and the medical team deserves praise for the way they've handled this.

I dunno

Even for pointless games, in my mind you've got to earn it

I think everyone overestimates the role of captain a bit, but Sturridge would be an awful choice. Sure, give it to him in some meaningless game, but I've no idea how that'd help him really, it's be in a meaningless game after all.

Awful choice of captain but he's a worldclass striker. We can't go on as we have done over the last couple of years with him but if he stays fit we shouldn't even consider selling him because I genuinely can't see how we can improve the team by replacing him. He's that good. Klopp and his team might just have found a solution to his problems and if they have, they deserve great credit.

With Sturridge (fully fit and focused), Origi, Ings and Firmino (plus either Benteke or the money we'd get for him), we're completely sorted up top for next season.

Personally I was never a fan of Gerrard as captain, which most people think is insane. He definitely grew into the role in many ways, but he still never fulfilled the role as I see a captain.
Not alone. He was a fucking awful captain, but at least he led by example.
