Lucas is the worst player to have played at Liverpool for so long. By MILES. And if we're looking at "specialist" defensive midfielders, he's also the worst DM we have ever had, apart from Poulsen.

Think of all the wonderful midfielders who have played for Liverpool: Souness, Gerrard, Alonso, Mascherano, Whelan, McDermott, Molby, Hamann, McMahon. Just look at those players!

Of that list, only Gerrard played for Liverpool for longer than Lucas. Which is why we haven't won anything of note since he arrived.

Lucas's Liverpool career is more symptomatic of the malaise. Of course we've had so many amazing players in the period since we last won anything of note, never mind the league, but Gerrard and Carragher stayed so long because they were loyal and scouse. It helped that they were also great players.

But sadly most of our other great players have left recently because other teams offer more obvious success, because they're better than us, because they don't have players like Lucas for 10 years. So we see the sad drain of talent like Masher, Torres, Alonso, Suarez etc.

The reason Lucas hasn't left isn't because he's loyal - although he probably is - but because he's fucking shit, and nobody wants to buy him.

And so the cycle continues.
