I think he has great promise, but I fear for him a little. He doesn't really have the discipline or the stamina it seems to play centre mid. His versatility could see him shifted about all over the place, without really making one spot his own. We don't want him to become a jack of all trades. We need him to make a position his own.

The fact that he's 21 and in a new league should give him a little bit of leeway. Gerrard, amongst others, was very like that at his age. His versatility at his age, shows his talent, more than anything else. He's not slotting in where needed, he's playing in the position where the manager he can be most effective at this stage of his career. He'll move to midfield over the course of the next season or two.

Oh yeah definitely, his versatility, talent and age are all positives. Unlike Gerrard, though, I don't think the lad is a natural athlete as such. Plus Gerrard was a freak. He should go on to become a good central midfielder for us, but there are pitfalls to be wary of.

Yeah I think he will be boss eventually but he's not just going to slot into DM next season and make it his own.

He's looking really good. The biggest criticism of him in Germany was that he switched off alot and got sloppy with his play when he did. I think the worst example of that we've only really witnessed when he's been out of position and up against a player like Hazard (who most would struggle against), so that bodes well as far as his concentration goes.

As said, I think he'll come into his own when he builds up the fitness to play in central midfield every week. When he goes on those runs forward, he's great at dropping his shoulder and finding a pass, if we can just fine tune his game a touch, he'll start to get amongst the goals and assists, because he's too technically gifted not to.

Bolds not bodes...

I've been frustrated by his regular deployment across the backline. It worked in a back three to a point, but playing him at RB is taking it too far.

He should have had more time at DM this season in preparation for next year.

So the similarity to the early days of a club legend goes beyond just the squad number ...

I was thinking that too....

He had a mixed season but for a 21 year old, first year here, asked to play in different positions out of necessity - you've got to be pleased with his contribution.

I'd like to think his athleticism and technical ability will lead to him being a good DM in the coming years. I'm not quite ready to say he should be a regular feature in the side but he's not far off.
