Another question - how much has Klopp contributed to Edwards looking good? I've read that Klopp's player knowledge is astonishingly good. Also, Klopp, more than probably any other manager, is insistent on the specific type of player needed for his system.

Could we maybe use Buvac as an example?

Everyone was raving about how he was Klopp's brain when he was and, now look what we've gone on to achieve after.

Passing on Haaland and Belingham are two large blunders, who eventually made the call to pass on them? If Zorc was here there's chance we would have had both Haaland and Belingham.

Where is this idea that we passed on signing Haaland and Belingham coming from? Were they ever interested in joining us? Mancs rolled out the red carpet for Belingham but he still preferred to move to Dortmund.

How much influence did Riola have over the deal for Haaland? He could lay out a plan of moves which would maximise his client's income.

I think where Edwards has succeeded best has been in getting good money for the players we were happy to get rid of, more than on the ones we bought (where I think Klopp likely gives him a specific shopping list and will need persuading if Edwards identifies a good value deal for someone not on Klopp's wish list).
Even the sales process hasn't always worked (e.g. Origi and Karius are still with us) but that's part and parcel of the process - you get good money on sales by refusing to sell if the offer isn't good enough.
I also think Edwards uses agents to get deals done more than most others in his kind of role, which is why we're always at or near the top of the agent's fee list, even though we've usually avoided the ones who want astronomical fees.

So you don't think that 2 x CL finals and 2 seasons of >95 points in the PL proved the concept?

That’s my point though. The concept is absolutely proven, but then the scaling and investment to grow the “product” never materialized.

At the height of the Mancs success they regularly sold top players and bought top players to sustain their dominance. Times are different, but the quality of our starting 11 has largely stagnated. Adding a player here and there.

Hence, they proved the concept but failed to capitalize on it.

I had a chat with a guy who used to work for Man U and he said their business model in those years was to ask Fergie if he wanted to strengthen the squad with whatever cash profit they’d made, and if he said no then they would spend it on expanding the ground instead. Point is they always reinvested the cash, either in the team or the infrastructure. I’ve never checked their figures to see if that’s true but it seemed to stack up and it made sense.
And the other point is that the manager had the first call on what they did with the cash.

100% this.
Their model worked exceptionally well to get us back to the top tier but they've not shown sufficient desire to keep us there. Much more in line with an Arsenal or Spurs than the real players.

No, Klopp was raving about Buvac as being his brain, because that’s just the kind of person and leader Klopp is, and everyone just took his word for it.

No matter how long we had to wait for a title, they need to understand that we are not an Arsenal or a Spurs. We are fucking European Royalty, and even when they took us over despite being fucked up we were never below top 10 and had reached 2 european cup finals and come 2nd twice in the league in the decade just before. If any Liverpool fan goes into to a season without hope of winning/challenging for a title then they cannot be a real fan.

I had zero hope of us winning a title ever again at various points over my lifetime as a Liverpool supporter.

Me on two occasions, the season after GH left and the season after Benitez left. But I always expect a title challenge. Not what fuck8ng Arsenal are doing right now.

You had hope we were going to win the league with Uncle Woy in charge?

How do these two feelings coexist? What are you talking about?

bullshit like most of my stuff that I post on here. I get a bit emotional - every season I set a target for LFC - win everything - you know the quadruple - but it has not happened yet. But I always hope for it, until we lose the first game and then I think ... "Mother fuckers - useless cunts". Klopp has changed that for me - he gets the emotional aspect of the team, and has worked on the right stuff. The only thing we are still doing wrong is not always getting that one player we need, this season you watch the biggest mistake we have made is not signing the other work-horse we need for the midfield position Bissouma would have been ideal for that. I also think for Man United that is their missing component, if they get him - then they are serious title contenders based on signings but not necessarily their manager.
