The Athletic apparently reporting that Michael Edwards is going to leave at the end of the season...

No new expensive signings. Now no new cheap signings...

This is a bit shit.
Club should be working hard to keep him, but this news coming out two days before the transfer deadline is hardly coincidental.

Funny that the club have harped on all summer about the importance of renewing players contracts and then the person responsible for that decides to fuck off.

Good stuff

Fuck me IndyKaila actually broke this new about Edwards last week in a tweet and said Real Madrid want him.

Since #19, it just feels as if we've been hit with poor luck (injuries), global pandemics and an inability by our owners to invest to get the maximum out of this squad - it was good enough, with the right investment, to win quite a few more major trophies.

Edwards leaving just seems to continue this trend ... and it's not a good sign.

Everything is fine, nothing to see here, stop worrying.

It’s like the film, margin collateral, if you keep selling shite to the market, sooner rather than later, teams are gonna stop buying from you. So maybe best to move on rather than stagnate especially if there are projects out there gearing to spend.

FSG’s investment in women’s LFC and Red Sox over the last 3yrs prooves where things are headed and will remain. Nothing much we can do but accept the future in the current squad.
We had 3 amazing unexpected years to remain memory in the mean time with Klopp anyway.

If he's leaving because he's done with football for now, fair enough, but it'd be shitty (though understandable) if he's leaving for Real Madrid.

Hopefully our succession planning for the backroom staff is better than it appears to be for the playing staff.

No doubt the Echo will now claim that Ward was the genius negotiator all along even though they've previously stated Edwards was the messiah. Cue the Ward will save Liverpool millions articles.

I just hope he doesn't take the data science team with him - he was obviously a great influence on the set up of that team, but we shouldn't overlook the contribution that he has had over time from investment into new ways of assessing players and transfers. Can't blame him for looking to move on - he was key to #6 and #19, and is probably looking at the oil money clubs spending big and thinking it is unobtainable to rebuild against these teams in the next 3-5 years.

Not going to lie, this is fairly concerning. Lack of reinvestment in the squad, transfer guru leaving, Klopp running out of years before a likely sabbatical.

I expect some marching in the desert after this cycle wound down but I really hoped we'd have more trophies to show for it. *sky is falling*
