Ease Off On Benteke

I know it's early days and he's been in and out of the team, but these days you do just don't get the luxury of time afforded to settle in. People want results immediately.

There's no patience in the game anymore,.
Agreed - but in our situation its craziness to keep writing players off - wasting 10s of millions. We need to be patient, even if its counter-cultural.

Benteke is frustrating for many of us as we struggled to see from the outset how he would readily fit into the style of football we play. Added to the fact that we were not sweeping all before us, the need to produce immediately seemed a recipe for the kind of situation Benteke is now facing.

It was Wednesday. I was right behind that in the Anny Road. A turgid game changed by that moment of brilliance.

He scored a beauty against Blackburn that year from about 30 yards with a side foot curler. I liked Collymore the player.

Weirdly, I had an Anfield Road season ticket, but for some reason I watched that game from the Main Stand. Maybe I'd given it up by then. Yeah, probably. He could have been an English Ronaldo.

It's a no win though.

Spurs have blooded their youngsters and look good for top 4 and have new stadium coming. West Ham have improved and have a new stadium coming.

We are falling into the mid table bracket and quicker than we think. It says something that when we have one fit senior striker, the manager seems loath to play him.

Perhaps we should stop punting on £30m players that most people could see aren't worth that. We buy badly, they perform badly, we lost money badly. It's almost inevitable and it's been happening for too long. We have put ourselves in a situation where we can't be patient.

Anyone remember the goal from the kick off against 'Boro? Anyway, here's the Sheff Wed cracker:
