Don't go breaking my heart!

I think it's because he's signed such a long contract that he believes he's entitled to say something,Doc.

Lots of players talk shite about how much the club means to them and take any opportunity to kiss the badge as if it somehow shows loyalty.

With most, it's fake..but I think that for a select few, it's very very real.

With Reina, it's not fake... I believe he just genuinely wants to see quality brought in to make the team stronger again.

I don't think he's angling for a move or a better contract ala Shrek.

It's the Mail FFS. Even the way the quotes are presented makes it look like a frame-up. No suggestion of what the questions were, and they feel like bits have been cut out of them.

I trust Reina a lot more than shite rag. If I see and hear him say stuff like that on TV, I'll worry, but not until then.

Its about time some in this club started to waive some ambitions. What we have heard from our manager over the 3 last months it seems like we will be overhauled in 2020 and ready to show off then.

That article is just a mess really. I mean, they make out that he wants to go because we haven't won anything, then make out that he wants to go because the manager who was here over the 4 years we didn't win anything has gone. Doesn't really work, and is just pieced together in the Mail.

The link to Arsenal is pretty lazy too. Everyone has assumed for years that they want a keeper.

I hope he doesn't go and don't think he will. If he does, he does though. Not a huge amount we can do about it.

The credibility of that article is very much in doubt but even it wasn't is it really that bad? He's basically saying 'Match my ambition or I'll have to look elsewhere'. I'd expect nothing less from a player of his caliber.

Meh.

even with a bottomless pit of money that is difficult. say for instance henry told the new manager (wont countenance another season with roy in charge) he has carte blanche to buy any player he likes, who are these world class players and where are these world class players?

a) in world class teams.
so would unlikely sell

b) they are young but have world class potential.

would riena be satisfied with someone who is potentially great but isn't the finished article. i.e a young ronaldo

I think most top players would be happy with a top manager who wins trophies.

I don't think its a case of looking at every signing and asking 'will Reina be happy with that?'

I think the easiest solution is to make sure Comolli works closely with Reina when we are identifying any transfer targets.

Haha. In fairness, there was a rumour of a clause the other week wasn't there?

I didn't believe it then and don't now. However, if players do want to leave clubs tend to let them go.

A clause of 20 mill £, for one of the best goalkeepers in the world with 6 years left on his contract is the shittiest clause ever if it's true. I doubt it is though.

Why would Arsenal be 'on alert' for a 'keeper like Reina?

If you follow the logic (that he's fed up being in a team that hasn't won a trophy for 5 years') then he's hardly like to join a team that's been unsuccessful for longer, is he?

Given how reluctant Wenger is to spend big, can anyone really see him paying 20m+ for a 'keeper?

A move to Man Utd seems unlikely, no?

He's ruled out Spain, so that leaves Man City in the Premier League or a big Italian or German club.

Seems unlikely to me.

LIVERPOOL START TO PERSUADE TORRES AND REINA TO STAY
Liverpool fans are gonna like this news.

The Independent and Mirror are reporting that the club's new owners have held 'preliminary meetings' with Fernando Torres and Pepe Reina in order to persuade them to remove the escape clauses within their contracts.

There's some fascinating stuff in the Indy's account so let's not mess around any more with the small talk:

'It is understood that Torres reached an informal understanding with Liverpool before the New England Sports Ventures (NESV) group, headed by John W Henry, took over that he would be permitted to leave at the end of this season if Liverpool had failed to qualify for the Champions League and a good offer came in. The same goes for Reina, with unconfirmed suggestions that a £20m release clause is in place.

'Henry and his new chairman, Tom Werner, have already held initial talks with specific players. Though they believe there is no emergency - neither Torres not Reina are agitating to leave - they will be seeking to ensure that the undertakings, given at a time when the former managing director Christian Purslow needed his key playing assets secure to continue his search for buyers, do not leave Liverpool at risk of losing their best players.

'It is understood that NESV does not consider there to be any risk of either Torres or Reina leaving the club in January.'

A concurring Daily Mirror also carries information on the meetings, with Liverpool's owners described as assuring Torres that 'they want to build the future of the club around him.'

However, there is a line of contradiction with the details supplied by the Indy:

'Reina has a clause in his contract allowing him to leave for £20million.

'Despite suggestions to the contrary, Torres has no such clause, but he has been visibly unhappy with events over the past 12 months as Liverpool have slipped from grace.'

Its just lazy. If you google 'Arsenal sign goalkeeper' or 'Arsenal linked with goalkeeper' then they are apparently after every goalkeeper in the World. Either than means that Wenger is now taking transfer advice from Rafa Benitez or the vast majority of the stories are bullshit.

Given that Reina spent half the summer trying to push their captain towards a move to Barcelona I am not that sure that Arsenal would really welcome him with open arms anyway.

because he is a final piece of their puzzle. He will earn them a good 5-10 points extra (maybe even more looking at how they have struggled with HUGE mistakes by the keepers they have hd over the years. Reina would be worth spending big on, because he could not only hand them the title, he could also hang around for 10 years if they are lucky. Well worth every penny of 20 mill pounds for Arsene.

Arsenal haven't won anything for a while, but they've been building a stadium and a young squad. They're well set for the immediate future to get some silverware.

currently arsenal are better placed to win stuff than we are but that hopefully will change very quickly with the introduction of nesv.

Losing to the Baggies or the Toon in a silent stadium is up there with us losing to Blackpool.

Given Arsene's history of money meanness I can't see him spunking 20m+ on Pepe.

For 4 years of the 7 without winning, they've been playing in a new stadium. I'll agree that they've been building a young squad, but I don't see them winning the Premiership any time soon. And CL is definetly not on the cards.

Would be the wrong move and a strange one if Pepe went there.

Absolute SHITE Ryan. Like I said at the start of my post - Bad timing. We've been through enough off field DRAMA, and things are getting better. Give it a rest for a month. Give us a break from this shite, and do your business behind closed doors.

Don't go spouting off in the media.
"spouting off"?

Have you only read the headline?

Read his actual quotes, which were probably in reply to direct questions, and then come back to me.
Ryan, if it's true, which it may not be, going to Media and telling them there's a good chance you'll be leaving the club you play with maybe at the end of the season is spouting off to me. Anyway, swings and roundabouts.

I saw this article, and like others I didn't believe we'd be dumb enough to sign a clause like that!
