Doni: The Truth (ish)

Did you see Rodgers answer questions about Doni today? It gets odder and odder. He said 'This dates back to before I was here and I can't comment,' then when asked if he'd ever come back or was basically out Rodgers just said 'It's personal'. Get a Communications Officer, pronto!

SSN announcing he's getting a "free transfer to a Brazilian club"

And there we have it....

Alexander Doni is set to return to Brazil after his Liverpool contract was terminated today.

Personal problems have seen the goalkeeper fail to return to Anfield since the end of last season and has since been replaced by Brad Jones as understudy to first-choice stopper Pepe Reina.

Doni, who made just four appearances since his move from Roma in summer 2011, will now head back to his native South America after a deal was agreed with the Reds to terminate his current deal.

Last week the 33-year-old broke his silence to dismiss suggestions that ankle problems and an unhappiness with his status at Liverpool had factored into his stay away from Merseyside.

He has become the second outgoing from the club on transfer deadline day, following Dani Pacheco's move to Spanish second division side SD Huesca on loan until the end of the season.

Hmmm... According the Dave Usher, something showed up in a health check at the end of last season that made the club feel they couldn't play him, so he went off to Brazil. LFC didn't want to damage his chance of finding another club so they kept quiet. There was a rumour doing the rounds a few months ago about hiim having a hole in his heart (like the 'wholehearted' Asa Hartford), so maybe it was true after all.

There were similar reports about Andy Carroll

You'd think we'd check that up before we sign the paperwork rather than at the end of the season. Unless of course the medical equipment is on it's last legs and the good Dr Zaf Iqbal is just a shite doctor

What difference does it make if a keeper has a hole in the heart. Motherfucker aint run but twenny fie yards per game.

He's signed for Botofogo, guess they're not arsed about the hole in his heart either

You didn't think Lance Armstrong took drugs either
What has that got to do with anything? Im confused.
If Doni failed a drug test we would sack him, not pay his wages for a year and then let him leave on a free. What does the Armstrong thing have to do with it?

Yeah, its the shite botafogo

Liverpool keeper Alexander Doni joins Botafogo on free transfer
Liverpool goalkeeper Alexander Doni is returning to his native Brazil to join Botafogo on a free transfer - but it is not the famous Rio club of that name.
Instead, the 33-year-old, who signed for the Reds for about £1.3m in 2011 from AS Roma, is joining Botafogo of Ribeirao Preto, currently bidding to reach the national fourth division.
Doni, signed by Kenny Dalglish, made only four appearances for the Reds.
The keeper has won 10 Brazil caps and was in the 2010 World Cup squad.

If he really has gone to a lower division club in Brazil there has to be something seriously wrong going on with this guy.

FOURTH DIVISION CLUB

FFS even Brad Jones isn't that bad. WTF is wrong with him? He got Consumption of something?

Liverpool have parted company with goalkeeper Alexander Doni who has joined Brazilian side Botafogo SP on a free transfer.
The 33-year-old's contract was due to expire this summer but the Reds have reached an agreement with him over the remaining five months on his deal so he can return to his homeland.
Doni has not figured for the Reds since the final day of last season at Swansea City.
He made just four first-team appearances for the club after moving to Anfield for around £1.3million from AS Roma in July 2011.
Botafogo SP club president Gustavo Assed told Globo Esporte: "We made an offer for him, as the player himself asked. We understand Liverpool have accepted the offer, so we are planning to officially unveil him this Friday.
"Doni wants to finish his career at Botafogo, he is a top quality national team level goalkeeper. Most importantly, he is a Botafogo fan and we wanted him".
