Do we have any Catholics here?

Can someone pray that our players make it through this international break unscathed?

Focus on Agger.

But don't forget Meireles, Kuyt, Johnson, Lucas and Reina.

The rest...meh.

"Our Father who art in heaven...."

I'm a Catholic, and a practising one too, but I'm afraid I rarely include football among my prayer intentions.

There's always a first.

I could be wrong but if I am not mistaken there are a number of other faiths and religions that pray as well as catholics

LIAR!!!!

JJ is right. You are not allowed football favours in your prayers.

However, you can give thanks in your prayers for King Kenny, and it might work in your favour.

I thought Catholics could pray for specific things.

Hey I must admit I'm not that familiar with the teachings of Cathol.

We can (I'm sure that applies to other faiths too incidentally) but we wouldn't generally for football stuff, though I will admit to having said one or two when the whole club's been under a dark cloud, in the last months of GH's time and more recently when Roy was still there.

No, that's God.

We've had a Saint too.

Things are bleak since the folks up the road sold themselves to Satan, but we'll be back agian.

My dad used to think I was a lazy twat but it turns out I'm a Buddhist. I love this meditation shit. So much better than getting fucked in the mouth and made to feel it was my fault.

I'm a practising and devoted Catholic and never prayed for us until Roy was manager. My prayers were answered when he got the boot and on Sunday!

I was raised Catholic but have various brutal reasons for despising the organisation now. Some are just too mad to even discuss but I think the way St Mary's College treated me was enough to make fire-bombing the Vatican a reasonable response. a) They put me in the lowest set for Maths when I was the highest scorer in the year because of a theological point of view. b) They made me take my GCSE's two weeks after Hillsborough despite every other student in Liverpool who got crushed getting to take them later and despite the fact that I was an insomniac on suicide watch, because 'we raise good strong Catholic boys'. I hope all those motherfucking Christian Brothers who stand by that kind of shit burn in Hell, but can't expect them to, given it doesn't exist. I failed everything despite getting As in all my mocks. I wasn't even there at the exams. I can't even remember taking them.

Theologically I could of course argue with that, but I'm not going to this time (that's for another thread if you're ever interested). Suffice it to say the vast majority of Catholics are ashamed of such chapters in the Church's history and things are very different now.

I just don't get it though... I mean the Catholic Church has been going for aeons and the vast majority of that time has been plagued with corruption and hideous abuse. I don't understand why anyone would even try to fix it. There's nothing worth saving that you can't find somewhere else.

Two brief points only (this is the footy forum after all!). One - that bolded bit is an equally hideous and heavily misleading exaggeration. Two - the church continues, and people remain loyal to it in their countless millions, because what counts is the message and not the admittedly dreadful failings of *some* of its members. You might as well give up on football because some of its followers are vicious louts.

I will say that the only person who seemed to give a fuck about my state of mind after the whole Hillsborough thing was my local Catholic priest, so I know it isn't completely full of pollutant shiteating scum - but there is such a high level of it in there, some I know very well, that it just isn't worth saving. What for example is better that the Catholics do that the Anglicans don't?

Not religious, but been thinking of starting a cult. I could reach out to the spirits of the club during my next seance. Who else would like to practice slugism?! 😱 😱

I'm a prod.

Praying will do fuck all good.

We're all doomed to eternal damnation, burning in the fires of he'll, etc!

The devil already has shares in man utd, so we can't even sell or souls.

I fucking hate Christian Bale. He's a massively overhyped average actor and a cunt.
