Do I not like that..

England was a step too far for him and that was a real shame, because at his best he was a good club manager and seemed a decent sort.

Graham Taylor RIP.

Sad to hear.

I remember watching that documentary about his stint as England manager.
Two things pop up instantly:
Phil Neal being his lackey.
Carlton Palmer getting a cap.

Carlton Palmer getting a cap.

He got quite a few caps in the end!

Taylor was obviously not a success as England manager, which wasn't ALL his fault, as he did have to deal with a lot of players who got injured, others who retired and others who were on their way out. But still, he did poorly.

At club level though he was a good manager, especially at Watford. And he always came across as a decent guy.

Doesn't seem to be anyone who had a bad word to say about him, either in football, or indeed the media.

That's very rare, so he must have been extraordinarily decent and nice.

If it wasn't for us he'd be a two time league champion. With Watford 82-83 and with Villa 89-90.
What he did with Watford was remarkable, I mean getting the to the first division from division 4 in 5 years and finishing second in their first season.
He also gave Barnes his debut at 17.
His record at Villa wasn't too bad either, getting them promoted and two years later finishing second in the prem.

I remember his brand of direct football. Mostly in the air by Watford so much so it was called heavenly football. RIP

I prefer the words of Brian Clough: "If God had meant us to play football in the air he'd have put grass in the sky."

Our favourite Newspaper hounded him like the cunts they are back in his England days..

The Turnip Head thing was unnecessary...

Great Club Manger.. amazing what he did at Watford..

Never had a bad thing to say about our great club..

Great club manager, his achievements at Watford were superb. The press were disgusting to him whilst at England. RIP.

I just heard the 5 live tribute to him. It was very moving. The S** headline turnip thing was outright cruel, crass and fucking shit actually. I'm annoyed. I'm all for media freedom but when it descends into what is essentially schoolyard postering and cheap laughs to the knuckle dragging neanderthals they are pandering too then I'm happy to tell them to fuck off if it enters my eyes and ears. Shame on them.
