Did we get mugged off? (Neco loaned to Fulham)

We can’t get him for free - he’d go to tribunal at worst and Fulham would likely present the deal we offered as what they should get given he wouldn’t have been joining us straight away.

I guess we can’t sign a deal now because come through summer, Fulham won’t own his registration to hand over to us - so as long as the player was happy with terms and still wants to join us - we should still have an agreement with him.

Bit fucking stupid to go through all this and stuff up the paperwork though.

[article]The Club is delighted to confirm the signing of Neco Williams on loan from Liverpool.

An attacking right-back, Williams will remain at Craven Cottage for the remainder of the 2021/22 season.

Tony Khan said: "Neco is a great young talent and I’m delighted to welcome him to Fulham for the rest of the season.

"It’s important, especially with Denis now leaving the Club, to bring in a player of Neco’s quality to ensure the strength of the squad."

The 20-year-old arrives in SW6 having featured this season in the Premier League, UEFA Champions League and Carabao Cup for the Reds, and World Cup Qualifiers for Wales.

Born in Wrexham, Williams joined Liverpool at Under-9 level, progressing through their academy before making his senior breakthrough in 2019/20, a season that ended with him getting a Premier League winner’s medal.

He already has 17 senior caps for Wales, in which he’s scored twice, and featured in every one of their matches at last summer’s European Championship.[/article]

It's good for Neco to get game time. We can see if he has a future. Helps us keep a good relationship with Fulham, which may be good for scooping their developing stars and ditching our rejects. Disappointing not to land Carvalho (yet), but not the end the of the world.

Would be nice if they played him in a more attacking role; I think that's probably where most of his upside is.

Good move for everyone.

Neco needs games, Fulham needs a RB, and we need Neco away from our back line.

I suppose if worst comes to worst and (god forbid) Trent picks up a long term injury, might we consider recalling Sepp? Hasn't he turned into a marauding RB over at Preston or something?

Don't know why the Carvalho had to go to the wire. Must've knows there would be a few details to sort out. They get Neco, which gives him game time. If Carvalho has a blinding second half of the season, others might come in.

[article]Interestingly, unlike the deal that took Nat Phillips to Bournemouth until the end of the season, Fulham did not pay a loan fee for Williams[/article]

They probably covered 100% of his wages and/or promised him games (which, like Phillips' case, will hopefully help boost their valuation).
