I think he (Kyrgiakos) signed a two year contract with us. Why don't we just keep him for one more season then release him at the end of it? He provides good backup.
Because we are totally skint and need as much money as we can possibly get.

While on the subject, got this from Tribal:

Liverpool are inviting offers for Greek defender Sotirios Kyrgiakos.

The People says Kyrgiakos is among names that top the 'For Sale' list as the Anfield money men are frantically trying to do deals to give manager Roy Hodgson more financial muscle to turn the club around.

Greece centre-half Kyrgiakos was landed on a free transfer by Rafa Benitez last summer but he is now being hawked round Europe for around £2.5million.
We paid a couple of million for The Greek.
Yup, think it was a million or 1.5.

Dunno about that Brendan, we just spent 2m on Wilson. Also, I'm sure there are other players that we can sell first? Babel, Riera, Darby, Lucas, Plessis, El Star, Nemeth, Itandje, Brouwer, N'gog can leave first.

Most of whom are shit granted but that would leave us with next to no wide midfielders and 5 centre backs.

My point is, if we're really skint and need to sell *some* players to get as much money as we can get, we'll do well to offer the dross above to other clubs first before Kyrgiakos.

You can't always sell the players you want rid of in precisely the order you'd like to. It stands to reason that the lower down the order you go, the less likely there are going to be takers for them. The fact is, the Greek falls neatly into the category of 'dispensable' and will therefore leave for the right price, regardless of whether there are worse players than him still here.

If we can make our money back him, and provide a little more money for rebuilding the squad, I don't think you'll find too many people arguing.

Because although they are not any good we will still need players in those positions.

Kyrgiakos was 4th choice last season. We have just bought a new centre back for 2 million. If we sell Kyrgiakos for 2 million that means we have essentially replaced him for nothing and put that towards getting in other players in other positions.

We don't need 5 centre backs when we have no left backs at all and only one decent striker.

So he can go for free? We should at least get something back for him.

God, what an awful signing he's been. 40k a week, injured all the time and fucking shite. Dortmunds supporters laughed when we signed him.

I get your points Rich and Del.

However, I would be disappointed if the club did not at least recommended the players I had mentioned to other clubs as well. I know we can't sell the players in the order we want, but Kyrgiakos is a good 4th choice to have given Agger's injury problems, Carragher's age and Skrtel still not that established yet. Wilson might get some games next season but what if (and it could very well happen) any of the 2 senior centrebacks are out for a long period at the same time.

Again, I can understand why Kyrgiakos is one of our more sellable assets but it could be a risky move to take.

Since we are on the topic of RB, I like the look of Crystal Palace's Nathan Clyne. Always looked good whenever I had the chance to see their match. Granted he's a rookie, but personally I think he'd be a more than capable backup.

Sometimes via livestreaming, DHSC. Got to see him a couple of times under Warnock and twice under Hart (their last 2 matches)

Maybe Pesam or Whitey can give us more information on the lad.

Who is not impressed with Uncle Roy's tenure so far? It is in a different league to what I was expecting.

A couple of really really good signings, good news coming from the senior players we have to keep, and the right flotsum in the squad being moved on. 10/10 so far for Hodgson.

He now needs a left back and a centre mid (plus maybe another striker).
I'm really impressed.

He seems to have identified the weak links (that most of us knew already but Rafa continued to keep faith in) and is wasting no time in pruning out all the flotsam. I just hope that the players he brings in to replace them are going to be substantial improvements and not just more deadbeats - the signs are good though.

Yeah, I just feel for the £2 million fee he's touted for in his link to Birmingham city, he's a feasible option.

From the Stuttgarter Nachricther;

With the transfer money would come into the treasury and the wishes of coach Christian Gross could werdeb met. He wants the Swiss international Philipp Degen (27) for the right midfield. VfB it will borrow from Liverpool, are supposedly the two clubs agreed, but the player still hesitates.

What the fuck are you hesitating for? Jog.on.

Loan move? Hmm, seems we can't get rid of this fuck up.
