One more relevant tidbit I forgot to mention: his name is pronounced as "sha-HEEN". Emphasis on the second vowel. I kind of enjoyed the Sayin'/Sahin jokes (the first hundred), but Şahin really doesn't sound anything like "sayin'". Turkish language has a regular S and also a Ş symbol, which is pronounced as "sh". Şahin's name is with "Ş".

They managed to replace him quite well with gudongen (sp?) though

Yes, they did as well as they possibly could, but still it's a far from a 100% replacement. Gundogan struggled badly for most of the season and the team's transition to a post-Sahin period was anything but smooth - that's why they got dumped out of Champions League so early and were trailing in the Bundesliga table for most of the season. To his credit, Klopp has managed to right the ship just in time for the decisive stretch of the season and they managed to leapfrog Bayern in the table and beat them in the Cup as well. And Gundogan has finally gelled in the team and started being useful. He is still very young and will probably improve under Klopp, but at the moment he is far less consistent than Sahin and doesn't create nearly as many goals, despite playing a bit further forward.

So two playmakers (Sahin and Allen) plus Stevie G? So are we looking at a Four man central midfield (with Lucas too), Stevie as second striker and Suarez up top? Borini coming in from the wing? Pretty exciting. How is Sahin defensively Rurik (and thanks for the insights)

The only part of rurik's post that surprises me is the bit about disciplinary record.

I've seen Sahin make some ridiculous crunching tackles and always assumed that it was a weakness. If he's not picking up cards then I guess he's just a really good tackler.

So are we gonna have all left footed on the left & right footed on the right then?

This is something fergie always tries to attain & works well, means when you switch wingers to inverted wingers the play changes massively & the opposition are often caught flat footed.
