It lasted 3 hours before it was taken down 😀

This needs to go in The Vault. Not particularly for the content but the thread title is magnificent.

Mourinho chimes in:

"When Sir Alex called me to give me the honour of knowing from him his decision, I was surprised and sad," Mourinho said.

"At the same time, I was happy to feel his emotion, and pride for such an amazing career.

"It will be difficult for me, and I think all managers, to go to Old Trafford and play against Manchester United, without this mythical figure waiting for us.
"I think David is a great choice. I like him as a person, I like his character as a manager. I believe Manchester United will support him, I think he has the qualities to do a good job.

"I wish Sir Alex a happy life, and I wish David a successful career at Old Trafford."

Mourinho now looks set to return to former club Chelsea and he dropped another hint that Stamford Bridge could be his next destination when asked if he had thought about replacing Ferguson.

"We are good friends, and my good friends know which club I would like to manage when I finish my work at Real Madrid," Mourinho added.

He also admitted he wouldn't be watching Ferguson's final game in charge of United, a trip to West Brom on May 19, as he would be overcome with emotion. He said: "No, certainly not - no, I don't want to cry!"

That's based on the assumption that results are 100% based on the manager.

Which is false. Results are 65% talent, 35% luck. The manager is a tiny portion of that 65%.

How do you know he hasn't just been unlucky?

Ha ha and where did you pull that gem from?

He doesn't like official stats that Binny so kindly posts, as they're completely meaningless to him.
So he's decided the best course of action he could take in order to enlighten us is to start pulling stats out of his arse. Much more meaningful for our football education.

I can see why Moyes has been appointed, it's the safe bet, someone who will adapt and do whatever he can to please Ferguson.

I am not sure it's the clever choice however. Even though it'll probably be old Alex pulling the strings the first Seasons I think it's a dangerous road to take appointing a new manager with the sole intention to clone him into the old one, which I believe must be the rationale behind Moyes getting the job. Potential banana skin of highest caliber.

Personally I am glad they didn't go for Klopp or someone on the up with a new and up to date view on football, but on the other hand I reckon we won't see much of a change compared to the last years of Ferguson's reign any time soon either.

I can see why Hodgson has been appointed, it's the safe bet, someone who will adapt and do whatever he can to please G+H.

Personally I am glad they didn't go for Laudrup or someone on the up with a new and up to date view on football, but on the other hand I reckon we won't see much of a change compared to the last years of Benitez reign any time soon either.

We can only dream that Moyes will have the same influence on United as the one Hodgson had on us.

I doubt he'll be that dire though.

Interesting post but I don't think that's what's really behind the appointment TBH. They know for an absolute fact that Ferguson's successor would be on a hiding to nothing, so they had to choose someone whom they can basically afford to sacrifice in two or three years, without seeing him make a total hash of things in the meantime. It pains me to say it but I actually reckon they've made a very clever choice here.

I am not going to dispute that part of the argument either, Moyes will leave quietly after a few Seasons should he fail to keep them winning compared to a Mourinho or someone else who'd probably make a scene and poke a Glazer in the eye.

I am convinced though that Moyes will have no problem what so ever to build upon what is already there and more or less continue the routines of old, without changing much if anything at all. They've imo not been searching for a manager with too many strong, new ideas of his own nor too much of a personality either, as he should be 'prepared' to sacrifice whatever personal aspirations he might have for the greater good, that is to simply carry on. If it ain't broken.

I may be completely wrong here, but that's my not so educated take on it all at least.

I see a bunch of United fans talking about Bale on another forum. I thought he was all but headed to Spain? I would hate to see him end up at Man Yoo.

I'd like him and Baines and Ronaldo sign for Utd.

Just before the asteroid strikes.....
