I hope they're giving his knee a proper look at. I wonder if it was a bit of ligament from the first tear / operation that was floating round causing pain and once it was sorted last year he's been good as new? Here's hoping there's no weird donor bits were used in reconstruction like with Fekir.

We've spoken a lot - at least on this board - about likely needing to sell to fund a revamp and I recall there being a fair bit of chat about not having a huge amount of leeway in terms of cash reserves floating about.

Thing I'm wondering is how does the Nunez transfer affect our ability to operate in the market now and over the next few couple windows? Particularly given that we have a couple big names likely to leave on a free.

Can't really imagine how a net spend of slightly more than nil will affect our ability to continue operating on a budget of roughly nil per annum, as we've been doing for about 7 years now, but I could be missing something....
Less flippantly: I'd say we're well over halfway to renewing the team for the next 5-8 years, anyway. Hendo and Thiago will have to be replaced within 3 years probably, but that's about it for major players. Maybe we'll spend big on a Salah replacement, but I'd say there's a fair chance that that won't be necessary. So I can't see money being an issue even in theory for quite a few years.
Especially with all our prize money next season after winning the quad.
I'd estimated previously that we had a budget for something like £90m headline fees this summer. If the reports are true, the headline fee for Nunez is about £65m. I'm assuming the add-ons won't be triggered in the coming season, even though there seems to be a sense that they are likely to be paid out over the course of the contract. We'll need to see what those add-ons are but if they are based on goals / appearances / Champions League qualification / trophy wins then they may not be due until this time next year at the earliest (goal / appearance fees are often due in batches of 25 / 50 rather than due every time the player plays / scores.
If we sell Mane for a headline £40m then that would leave approx. £65m left to spend, plus any proceeds of other deals. Obviously if the Mane deal if partly based on achievable contingent fees then we should probably discount those.
The mix of wages / timing of contingent fees will always throw some variability into the equation, but that suggests that we probably won't do another big deal, unless we raise some funds by clearing fringe players first (Neco / Taki / Ox seeming most likely at present). By all accounts, selling Ox would also make a big dent in the wage budget, although I wouldn't be surprised if we end up paying him to leave - i.e. even if we get a transfer fee, we could end up paying part of his wages for the remainder of his contract. That's pretty common when a player is on big wages and comes with injury risk (or is just over-paid for what he's really worth).
Obviously this is my best guess, and if I'm wrong and we end up spending big money on the right players then I'll be happy to be wrong.
I'd be elated if we had that sort of budget to play with.
Maybe we could sign Bellingham - who would obviously then proceed to be another shit overhyped Bundesliga export, just like Haaland.

Vieira was accused of making personal gains from his presidency of Benfica by another member of the board. He had to resign after being arrested by the Portuguese authorities on suspicion of tax fraud and money laundering. Currently on house-arrest with bail of €3m.
Sounds to me like he is suspected of taking bungs, most likely on transfer deals.
If that's the case, I think he'd have sold Nunez for a fiver if someone made it worth his while.
