According to Pearce:

Liverpool FC have been left baffled by reports claiming they are set to lose out to Arsenal in the race for Birmingham City’s Scott Dann.

The Reds haven’t made an approach for the defender and he is not a transfer target.

Rumour on TIA that a bid of 8 mill + Ngog and Wilson on loan is on the cards.
That is the equivalent of £12m, possibly more depending the terms of Wilson's loan arrangements.
That is a very large fee for a defender with one year left on his contract and seeing that we apparently weren't prepared to meet the £12m asking fee for Dann I really doubt that we would do so for Cahill.

I don't think we'll sign anyone else until Aqua has been sold - which will happen in the next week.

“@dalejohnsonESPN: I can confirm that Liverpool have offered £12m, plus David Ngog, for Bolton's Gary Cahill. Never interested in Dann. #lfc #bwfc”

“@dalejohnsonESPN: Arsenal were apparently outbid by Liverpool for Gary Cahill. Lesson learned taking too long on prime target. Why scout him in friendly? #lfc”

“@dalejohnsonESPN: Also, one of Liverpool's fringe players is likely to spend the season on loan at Bolton Wanderers. Joe Cole would fit with Lee out. #lfc”

One of the lads on YNWA had been told we've made a bid. He's been spot on about everything this transfer window.

well, he's wrong

From the Bolton News:

No bids for Cahill on eve of new season

Wanderers insist it is still all quiet on the Gary Cahill front, despite renewed speculation that Arsenal and Liverpool are preparing a bid for the defender.

It would appear the sale of Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona yesterday has given Arsene Wenger fresh funds to recruit a centre-half, with Everton’s Phil Jagielka and Birmingham City’s Scott Dann also on his hitlist.

Samir Nasri was also excluded from the Gunners squad, pending a move to Manchester City, and it is expected the club will launch a major spending spree at the start of next week.

Sources on Merseyside also claim Kenny Dalglish has not stopped his own recruitment drive at Anfield after snapping up Newcastle full-back Jose Enrique. But it is understood rumours claiming striker David N’Gog could be included as part of a deal for Cahill are wide of the mark.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool had representatives at last week’s friendly defeat against Levante, but their presence could equally be explained away by the fact they both face Wanderers in the opening six games of the season.

Cahill travelled with the squad down to London yesterday for the season opener against QPR, and should take his place in the centre of defence alongside Zat Knight at Loftus Road.

also TB from the times says no bid has been made

We shall see Spidey. I think its more that Bolton want todays game out of the way before dealing with this.

if we ARE in a for a CB I think it will be a case of us getting who arsenal don't (or vise verser depending on your point of view)
brum - need money badly
bolton - can't risk losing cahill fo nothing (can sign a pre contract in jan)

so
arsenal - dann
liverpool - cahill

or
liverpool - dann
arsenal - cahill

that's IF we want CB

The whole Phil Jones ordeal proved it.
This. If we went after him and now dont sign a CB then i dont know wtf we were doing going after Jones

Attempting to hike up the price
Not sure about that Fabs.
I read somewhere that Fergie hadn't intended to make his move for Jones till next season but because we were genuinely interested he had to make his move for him a season early.

Besides, shouldn't you be in the shower?

Blackburn have apparently agreed a £5million fee with Birmingham for Scott Dann.
That's the first time I've seen his name mentioned alongside a realistic valuation of him.

Crazy. If us or Arsenal had bought him a month ago he'd have gone for at least twice that.
cahill will go for a similar amount as bolton get twitchy.

i seriously doubt that as for that price he's worth more to them staying and helping them up the league (so making up more than 5m).

Yep and there will probably be a few teams desperate for reinforcements in January so they'll easily get that amount then too.
