What with the wheel of fortune having landed on a very paltry sum when our owners decided our transfer budget this year, is it now time for these four, or maybe four others, to prove that they can be capable 4th or 3rd choice when needed.
Take a look at Manchester United and Arsenal, there squads are made up of youth backups, and especially with Manchester United's case, it works well. Do you believe these guys have it in them to support us?
Personally, I think Ayala looked decent when he came on against Spurs, i'd be happy with him at fourth choice, he may look like the ugly guy out of a generic college based american teen movie, but he looked alright, to be honest, I wouldn't be that upset if he started besides Carragher tomorrow.
Jay Spearing and Damien Plessis, Plessis has proved before he can step in and perform well, he's also proved before he can step in and perform shockingly, Jay Spearing I know less about but I've always thought if he was a normal size he would have had his chance by now and taken it, I think the talents there, between them I think there able 4th choice. If two out of Mascher, Lucas and Aqua are injured at one time, they could do the job, much like Fletcher has done in the past, and as a result he's grown into a capable player.
We've seen before with El Zhar that he's a good option of the bench and if all else he's a decent backup should we lose, Babel, Kuyt, Benyaoun, Reira, but thats not very likely.
He hasn't been given a number, but I'd love to see Pacheco given a chance up top, the occasional substitute appearance, same with Nemeth, although he seems to have fallen off the path a bit lately. I think they have it in them.
The point of this thread is simple, our squad is looking paper thin at the moment, but that's because I don't think any of us really trust these guys if there ever needed to be called upon. Personally I think the four in the title could well play as 4th choices this year, and I'd be happy if they did. I think if we put faith and trust in them, not only will they not let us down, but it would be invaluable experience for them to grow as players, making them and us stronger.
