I agree with that, personally I would have flooded the midfield and match it difficult for spurs to pass through us, the second adam got sent off that ship sailed.

carroll moved to the left when we really needed him upfront to (attempt) to hold up the ball but that would have been one less in midield and we couldn't afford that.

Playing skittles at right bqck was a bad move.

Last season, he was a breath of fresh air when he started using the youngsters luke Robinson, Flannagan, Kelly and Spearing very well. They atleast played the game with energy.

This season he has been scared to do the same because we have spent a shit load of money on average players allround.But im pretty sure he will turn this around.

The thing about playing someone like Lucas as a mifield shield is we expose ourselves to games like this. This is not the first time he went missing when the opposition was dominating us with speed and quick passing. These are exactly the tupe of games a player like Mascherano would have stood up and be counted. A more aggtessive defensive midfielderr would jave shielded our defense better.....but that still doesnt excuse tge brainfade Adam had.

doesn't matter how impressive the ball winner is if the opposition have superior numbers in midfield they can just pass around him.

Aggression is important, but skill and awareness are more important. Lucas isn't a natural defensive midfielder.


The idea that you can just take a shit attacking midfielder and turn him into a defensive midfielder is ridiculous. The likes of Mascher invented themselves - by the time they were professionals they already knew what their job was.


It's an important distinction. Lucas just hasn't got the instinct for the job he's doing - sometimes he can fill in well - but he isn't ever going to own that position.
 
Lucas isn't really a ball winner. He was an attacking midfielder who was not good enough to be an attacking midfielder for Liverpool so now he sits and he can make a nuisance of himself. That's what he is.

That in itself implies the midfield tactics were totally wrong, we should have gone with a central 3 including Spearing to do the terrier chasing while the other 2 sat in position, mind you i think we got pretty much everything possible wrong in terms of formation and tactics today so there are alot of things that seem pretty obvious in hindsight
 
I'm pretty indifferent to lucas, I don't think he is as good/bad as people make out but I just don't think he has the pace, strength or vision to dominate a midfield away from home. I have seen lucas dominate an away side at anfield but you could argue the away side are going to naturally sit deeper and conceed possession ANYWAY.

It isn't so much that playing Skrtel at RB was a mistake but when you're down to 10 men and watching your RB getting torn a new arsehole by Bale and he's already on a yellow then you need to swap things. Kenny should've either subbed Skrtel or pushed him to CB and moved Carra to RB, now I know Carra hates playing RB but you know he'll do a far better job than Skrtel.

but we were only 1 down whch was aggers fault anyways. Lucas tried his best today but he was left isolated a lot of the time and there was NO MOVEMENT around him. EVER

I have to be a man city fan for the rest of the season now too? Modern football is rubbish. I don't blame Skrtel or Dalglish. I blame society!

Anyone not thinking Carroll was a mistake? Cash in on him in January and we might still get 18 million for him before everyone realizes he's a 6 month flash in the pan 3.5 million pound mid table level footballer.

The thing is its one of the key positions and we have played the best football when we had the midfield capable of dominating a game. Hamann/Stevie or Masher, Alonso and Stevie. It will be dificult to get back up there without redressing that problem.

You cant really fill that position with a player who is at best a passenger who doesnt make many mistakes, but doesnt really impose himself on any given situation...
 
I'd play Coates in the middle instead of lucas and just tell him to smash anybody who comes near him with his massive tree trunk legs.
