Cup Semi vs Villa

Surely the mentality and attitude from players should reflect the manager shouldn't it? Ferguson's and Mourinho's teams certainly reflected the managers as their teams were horrible bastards to play against and usually won. It was the same years ago with George Graham. And i think Pep Guardiola's teams reflect him and his style.
I'll use a Liverpool example to counter that. To the outside world Bob Paisley was a cuddly old uncle but his teams were full of hard-nosed bastards who needed no motivation to get up for big matches or indeed any appearance in a Liverpool shirt.

They got it direct from the manager. Paisley himself had a definite hard-nosed bastard side to him.

We've still not won anything Mark. Playing good football and getting 2nd was good and he earned the trust to spend on the players he wanted for this season with the expectation of pushing on. The CL; I expected him to not perform simply because he has no experience of Europe and he's got us to 2 semi finals this season but made a hash of the league. I'll say with FSG it's a fifty-fifty call for if he's here next season just like Kenny.

I know this mate, I'm not saying this season hasn't been a clusterfuck - it has. But people have short memories, like on the post-game stuff before, the pundits banging on about "Liverpool not doing it in big games", well if you discount games like City this season and last, trouncing Spurs, Everton and Arsenal like no Liverpool side in recent memory has.

And apparently he was as ruthless as anyone when it came to making big decisions. His public persona was hard to figure out as he did so few interviews but hearing players who played under him they all say that he could be as cutting as anyone when you didn't perform. Also he had Ronnie Moran who bollocked the players even when they won and who has rodgers got. Some fat headed clown that wears shorts in the dead of winter even when he's sitting on the bench. The shorts thing probably doesn't make that much of a difference but does make him look like a tit.

"sometimes you can want to win too much" said the manager whose not won a trophy.
It's like he's the wise old head who'd been a top manager for years and years and is generous enough to share his wisdom. Rather than someone who hasn't won anything and looks to be mostly smoke and mirrors. I genuinely can't listen to him anymore as it makes me shout at the telly.

Just because you're too dumb to realise the intricacies of it, it's not my fault

Its your fault you're the biggest bellend on this site who constantly tries to be a clever smartarse, when in reality you're a fucking moron.

Let's not fall out because we lost.

I am going to print out a picture of Joe Allen and snarl at that a bit instead.

“Technically, we were off. It looked as if maybe the occasion and the energy got to us a bit. Sometimes that can happen.

“It has happened a number of times. I think sometimes you can want to win too much, and the focus comes away from what allows you to win.

Really, what a load of bollocks.

Spot on that.

I stopped listening to him quite a while ago, the absolute bullshit he spews got way too much.

The man's a pretender who hung on the coat tail of Luis Suarez.

This season this self-appointed tactical mastermind has been outwitted by the likes of Garry Monk, Gary Bowyer, Neil Lennon, Neil Warnock and Tim Sherwood.

How many times did he change formation in that game? 4, 5, 6 times? This sort of stuff proves that he doesn't know what he's doing.

Moving Gerrard back at the start of the second half was probably the worst move of the lot on Rodgers part, such an obvious mistake it's almost like he's trying to handicap the team on purpose.

Bringing Johnson on with 15/20 minutes to go when we were chasing a semi final was awful too even though it was to replace the hapless Allen, why wait till injury time to bring on Borini or Lambert?

Just fuarking awful.

We were never ever going to beat Arsenal in a final though with Stevie in the team so at least we are saved from another curb stomping from the Arse.

Thoughts
  • Tactically we were a mess. We must have changed systems three times during the game.
  • We took 25 minutes to come to terms with the fact we were losing because we had played poorly. The lack of leadership and competitiveness during that period was disgusting.
  • I think we'd have won, or at least gone to extra time if Balotelli had started. He did more in 45 minutes than most players did in 90.
  • The same is true is if Lucas has started.
  • Gerrard should have won the league last season and left. I'm not in the slightest bit annoyed we didn't offer him in a new deal last year. It's like playing with ten men every time he's on the pitch.
  • Sterling up solo against that Villa defence was doomed from the start.
  • Delph won't be a Villa long, new contract or not. Same is true of Benteke.
The last 4 weeks has turned this year from an average year, with allowance made for the sale of Suarez and new players, into a poor year. Rodgers is going to have to make some very astute signings this Summer to prove he is up to the job in hand. Personally I'd offer the job to Klopp on the quiet. Why have the apprentice when you've got someone who has been there and done it?

Sleep for sure

Go to sleep but set your alarm clock to wake you up in time for the game. Then go to sleep again when it's over.

Are you east coast or west coast, Dirkus?

If East stay up, west get some sleep.

Drink Dirkus.

Drink your way through.

Keep posting on here though.
Btw the plan to stay awake went to shit. Fell asleep almost immediately after posting and had to watch the game on DVR.

Luckily I remembered to record. Unfortunately had to watch us get trashed by Villa.

Moving Gerrard back there was because Allen and Henderson were so bad. We needed someone to get on the ball and get it to the Coutinho and Sterling.

I thought Gerrard was better than either of them at that. Not saying he was great though.
