In general Anfield recognizes genuine, 100% effort players and it was heartwarming to see the support that was afforded to Crouch as he was desperately trying to break his duck at the start of his Liverpool career. He’s a good player, a solid lad and I’d be happy to see him return.
 
i agree. he's now a less desirable player, older etc etc and we want to buy him for more than we sold him for.

there are younger and better players out there.

crouch's inability to turn and run at the opposition ball when presented with the ball in an advanced position has FUCK ALL to do with babel. as for leading the line and holding up the ball I think it's safe to say torres does a MUCH better job without feeling the need run to the half way line every time he finds himself in possession of the ball in an advanced position.

Peter Crouch was a FAR better player for us than many will accept.

The reasons baffle me... It it coz he's 13 feet tall and looks gangly? If he looked more like Brad Pitt, would yiz all acknowledge that he did well for us?

I don't know what some of yiz look for in players.

I like attackers who can carry the ball forward... towards the oppositions goal. Strange, I know.

He's a decent player that did better for us than most anticipated and we sold him at a profit. Let's leave it at that.

You mean the way that I give him credit for all the good that he's done, recognise that we're FAR better now than we were the day he got here, but am not going to allow that to blind me to the fact that he's not flawless, and don't pretend that everything he's ever done is perfect..?

I thought he was a good player for us to be honest, although IMO Johnson + Crouch are hardly the top quality additions i was hoping for...

Funny , I always thought that was called retaining possession.
He almost inevitably played with his back to goal and no one else around him up front to take the ball off him.
If he had been allowed to have a bit of a run with Torres we might have seen something different.
As the Judge says he was a very useful option and far better than his critics ever gave him credit for.

Whereas Babel would just allow it to bounce off his shin to an opposition player, but that's ok because he's gonna be some player once he develops that first touch and his brain starts to grow.

I think Crouch could have developed a really good partnership with Torres, a change of system maybe but it would have been useful in alot of games.

This is why I hope he never comes back, threads like this. I get pissed off that so many cunts think they know so much about football - and in reality they don't, fucking armchair championship manager tossers.
They can't accept the real reason for dissing Crouchy was that he does not look like their idea of what a footballer should be, and nothing to to with his obvious ability, that or they are like sheep and follow the ramblings of the usual suspects.
(I don't include Whitey in that as he is usually pretty knowledgeable)

Tell you what... I'll wait till next time you say Player X has a rubbish first touch or that Player Y has a rubbish positional sense.

I'll then reply with a YouTube compilation showing Player X bring the ball down neatly or Player Y popping up with some well timed tackles and interceptions.

Because after all, making a comment about a players game lacking certain qualities means they NEVER EVER exhibit those qualities. And Crouch is great at running in behind the defence, pushing defenders back, carrying the ball forward etc.
 
Crouch probably left for 1st team football. Why would he come back to play second fiddle again, sometimes third option. Especially considering the World Cup is next year. He won't be back.

Ian Rush wasn't known for running hard at opposing defenses from the halfway line whilst in posession of the ball either.

If you cannot see that Crouch was a very decent footballer during his time with us, you're simply determined not to. I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince you of something you're determined to ignore.
