Coutinho gone. 142m

Selling him now still seems like a big mistake. He's in brilliant form, and fits our team perfectly. His understanding with Firmino and Salah in particular seems to be excellent.

There's a very good chance that our attacking form will suffer without him in the team.

Long term, I like the idea of bringing in Keita + Lemar + another CM and playing a more direct game, but that'll require time to adapt to a new playing style. And we know that Klopp really likes to have a preseason to bed in new players with a new gameplan. The best thing to do would be do sell him in summer.

I can see our season getting de-railed if it happens now.

The only way this makes sense is if we made an agreement with him in the summer that he could leave now.

Indeed. I said the same a couple of pages back. If an agreement is in place it makes sense. If not (and maybe we have an agreement in place that if a large enough offer comes in in the Summer we'll let him leave) then I don't believe he's downed tools again - it makes no sense because he knows how we (FSG) reacted last time and, with our position in the PL & CL, that we are even more unlikely to permit him to leave.

For me it's simply the Spanish media on rewind to the Summer. It also wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the Nike 'shirt issue' was at the behest of Barca.

I think the most likely scenario is a deal were we agree to sell him now, but he'll sign for Barca this summer.
That way our season wont be derailed, we'll have enough time to rebuild and Coutinho knows he'll get his wish regarding a transfer.

Barca seem skint though, so not sure if they have the money to make a bid that we'll accept.
Hopefully we'll rebuff any bids and sell him after the World Cup mind, with PSG also showing an interest.

I don't mind verbally agreeing we'll sell him to shut him up for the season, but agreeing a price would be stupid, his value will almost certainly go up after the world cup, so we shouldn't agree a price until after it.

We need to have a lower limit in place of we agree to sell. We really should get rid of him. Hope he goes today.

Everybody already knows how good he is .. and he's been playing great for Brazil too. There are no secrets where Coutinho is concerned. It's not like he's a new arrival on the scene. His price won't fluctuate due to the WC when it's already at ca. £130m plus .. does anyone actually think it'll go to £150-200m ?! I don't.

Nah, it'll disrupt our season massively, both in terms of mentality and in terms of team ability, there's no point to it. Even if we were to sign someone like Sanchez, they still wouldn't settle into the team instantly and replace his impact, our performance this season is far more important than a few million quid and Coutinho's desires.

IF, the talk of him saying he has played his last game for us is true, then he needs fucking off NOW, the little rat!
IF, the talk of him saying he has played his last game for us is untrue, then we need to keep the little darling. Until the summer at least.

If Brazil won the WC & he was to get loads of assists & be the player of the tournament we could easily slap on other 35 million or more on his price tag.

Getting Liverpool to the point where we are prepared to accept the lower limit of value is Barcelonas gameplan, press releases,Nike accidental releases,Coutinho thigh problem,Coutinho rumoured to be never playing for Liverpool again, all to one end to make us reach the point where we want to see the back of the little cunt. It's not just about the unacceptability of Liverpool FC becoming feeder club for Barcelona(well on the way with this sale imo)but on top of that for the club to be treated so shabbily into the bargain and every time end up accepting what are discount rates for quality players. It has to end and so it might as well end now.Coutinhos bluff needs to be called and Barcelona need telling that tapping up will result in no sales. Here's the question for those who say just get rid~Why?For the player? Not more important than the good of the club. For the good of the club?I don't think it is except in some short term end the embarassment way.The more times we cave in the more players will feel that all they have to do is dig their heels in.Coutinho will have been told by Suarez what the score is.At some point wehave to bite the bullet and just say no,we will not be dictated to and held to measly ransom. That time might as well be now.

I don’t know that we can unless Real or PSG get involved as a result.

Otherwise, I agree with the above. 130M or whatever is already top dollar for an established star who is doing everything he can to leave.

And let's not forget the tangent in all this ..... we have to replace him and it's either going to cost us an absolute fortune since everyone knows we a) have the money and b) are desperate, or he will be irreplaceable this January since no club wants to part with one of their best players mid-season.

Will Klopp be OK with him leaving and 'making do' with what we've got ? I doubt that very much, we have an excellent chance of pushing on for 2nd and a good draw in the CL should see us in the QFs, and with our attack and VVD in the defence, every chance of proving that 'black horse tag' a reality. Coutinho leaving and an injury here and there could derail both opportunities.

I think this probably needs saying again - there is good reason as to why Barca want Coutinho so desperately, he's top drawer.

We will have to strike gold to replace him. It'll be hard enough in the summer. In Jan, it's near enough suicidal.

Maybe Klopp and co have an ace up their sleeve (I hope they do), maybe Coutinho is stinking out the dressing room... either way, letting him go in Jan reflects badly on the club and poses a huge risk to our season.

If he was stinking the dressing room why would Klopp make him captain a few times recently?

I'm not saying he is (though things might have changed very recently)... just putting it up as there as a possible reason for selling.

No sane team would let two first team starters, both midfielders, leave midway through a Champions League run. Obviously the club hasn't wanted to let Coutinho go, while it's seemingly allowed Can to go, but there needs to be an exceptionally shrewd response to this, in terms of incoming players, to stop the season from going awry. This is like trying to change the engines on a plane midway through a flight - just a normal sort of day for Ryanair, but very risky for LFC.

We're not actually planning on letting Can go until the summer though, are we?

It doesn't make sense for Coutinho to go there now. Barca are walking the league, so they don't need him for that, and he is cup-tied for the Champs League. I just don't see what's in it for them to pay a January premium.

If they were happy to pay 130 mil for that cunt from Dortmund, who's nowhere near as good as Cuntino, that's where the bidding starts. It doesn't make sense to sell him in January but then, he is a cock whiff and the money's huge, so 150 mil plus you greasy, stinking third world twats.

The only thing must be that they are desperate to tie this up before the WC. Maybe they're afraid of PSG or Real and that a great WC will see them enter into a bidding war.

To weaken us before a possible match-up?

Hopefully the club has identified the right replacements for jan or the summer

Well if he's as intent on going to barca, as we're led to believe, PSG or Real could be wasteing their time.
