Is it just me who is getting increasingly frustrated by seeing Stevie continue to take our corners when he is one of the best headers of the ball we have on the team?

His corners have improved on last season when they went through a stage of being pretty dire but we lack height in the box and I think if he was in the area and someone like Konchesky was taking the corners instead then we'd see more goals coming from corners. We get shit loads of corners so it would be nice to be able to actually convert a few of them.

We've had loads of others try (pacheco, jovanovic, lucas and maybe more), the problem is they're not very good at them.

Aurelio may be the best, although he's back to his normal ways.

Absolutley not.

I think it's a major problem for us that we almost never scores from corners anymore. Obviously Gerrard's poor delivery is only part of the reason but it certainly would help with someone more assured taking over. Konchesky sounds a decent bet.

Is Meireles any good at it?

Incidentally, I watched a bit of the Madrid game the other day and Alonso was their main corner kick taker and I must say he did very well. Odd because as far as I remember his corners for us were always awful.

Gerrard's poor delivery.

Someone more assured.

Konchesky.

Worst post of the day.

It's upthere alright but there's still room for improvment mate. Give it another go in a few minutes.

Professional footballers. I'll say that again PROFESSIONAL footballers. Is there any reason in the world that they can't learn how to take a proper corner ? They have enough fucking spare time on their hands.

Gerrard should be stood at the edge of the box or within 5-10 yds of it. He would score a shit load more and take pressure off Nando.

I've given up caring about corners. We are always shit at them.

Alonso's corners were usually better than Gerrard's though.

I think it is more dangerous for them to have a goalkick than a corner against us.

Really? I thought he had pinpoint accuracy whereby he would pick out the first defender almost every time.

Meireles takes a good corner, as do Maxi and probably Cole aswell.

Gerrard should be in the box.

I have been going to Anfield since 1964 and we have always been shit at corners.

It's a shame because lesser teams (yes, there are some) often see corners as a good scoring opportunity and put a lot of effort and thought into them. I often wonder whether we ever practice corners in training, or whether we think that sort of thing is beneath us.

The worst phase was when McManaman and McAteer used to take short corners between them, and they often lost the ball, the opposition would dash upfield with it and score at our end.

I agree Stevie shouldn't be taking the corners, he is more of a threat in the penalty area and his corners aren't always that good.

Remember Bjornebye's corners and crossing in general?? I've never known a player like him, one minute he could put it on a players head from 30 yards, the next it'd end up at the back of the main stand.

Stevie should lurk... Sometimes burst into the box and head one in, sometimes wait and tonk a 20 yarder as it's headed clear.

This.

Does Stevie take them for England? If (as I suspect) he doesn't, does that suggest he does it at LFC because he demands to do so and, if so, is it high time for the manager - whoever the manager may be - to put his foot down and tell Stevie to get on the receiving end of them, where he belongs?

Strange considering he never really whipped them in, he was more of a dinker.

Oh well, if it's in a decent place I guess someone like Sami is gonna get to it.

Gary Mac was an ace set-piece taker.

He was a thoroughly gifted footballer, who could and should have more medals to show for his talent.

it was really odd his how his corners weren't delivered with pace and seemed to just hang in the air begging someone to put their head through it. great techinque.

True.

Although I think I could take a corner and ensure Hyypia got on the end of it!

gary mac was an interesting signing. who would the equivalent be today?

there was a point in that season where i thought we'd score from every set piece.

still remember that late goal against the bitters

I haven't been excited about a corner for years.

I just think it gives them the chance to counter-attack us.

we should just hoof them back to Reina and then he can ping it forwards again... at least every now and then Pepe picks someone out.

the Arbeloa long throws were the worst. I think he just tried to throw it as high as possible, even if that meant it only actually travelling about 1 yard.
