Can Joaquin replace Jovetic?
Can Joaquin replace Jovetic?
Nope - (a) he's a busted flush, (b) Jovetic always was a better player anyway and (c) Spanish players rarely if ever do well in Serie A.
Welcome to the site.
It's true about Gaizka, but he's the exception that proves the rule. Even if Llorente makes it (I personally think he'd be better suited to the Prem, but we'll see) that's hardly a long list.

Sevilla has signed Romania forward Raul Rusescu to a five-year contract following the exit of winger Jesus Navas to Manchester City.
Rusescu, who turns 25 in July, led the Romanian league with 21 goals last season to help Steaua Bucharest win the domestic title.
The Spanish club said Rusescu's contract includes a 40 million euros ($53 million) buyout clause, but didn't release any other financial details of the transfer.
He's not going to replace Jovetic of course in part because they're different players but don't you think Joaquin has done well at Malaga?
He's done OK, but he isn't the player he was. "Busted flush" is a bit harsh on reflection but I'm just not sure how much fuel he has left in the tank.
Young midfielder Moritz Leitner has committed himself to Borussia Dortmund until 2017 but will spend the next two seasons on loan with Bundesliga rivals Stuttgart.
Leitner is clearly highly regarded at the Westfalenstadion as the Champions League runners-up have signed the 20-year-old to a four-year deal.
But he will spend the first two years in south-west Germany with Stuttgart, who finished 12th in the Bundesliga last season.
"We are delighted that Moritz Leitner will now wear the jersey of the VfB," said sporting director Fredi Bobic on Stuttgart's official website.
"He fits in perfectly with our requirements. He is young, technically gifted and has a very good understanding of the game.
"And not least, he can be used in several positions, thus he has all the skills to play a key role in our game."
Leitner joined Dortmund, who confirmed on their official website that the youngster had agreed a new contract, from 1860 Munich in 2011 and made 30 appearances in all competitions last season, most of which came from the bench.
The Westphalian club feel Leitner could benefit from nailing down a first-team spot with Stuttgart.
"I think we can achieve a lot here, I have a great desire to see the VfB where it belongs and I would like to do my part," he said.
Malaga have confirmed the appointment of Bernd Schuster as Coach on a five year deal, seemingly confirming Manuel Pellegrini’s release to Manchester City.
The Costa del Sol outfit were believed to have reached an agreement earlier this week with former Real Madrid Coach Schuster to come in as Pellegrini’s replacement.
However, a believed contractual dispute with Pellegrini had delayed both the Chilean’s exit and subsequent appointment at Manchester City, and Malaga being able to name Schuster as the new Coach.
In having now confirmed via an official statement on their website Schuster’s appointment, the indications are that Malaga have resolved the issue with Pellegrini too.
“Malaga and Bernd Schuster have reached an agreement for the German Coach to join the club,” read Malaga’s posting on Friday afternoon.
“The Andalucian club trusts the German Coach to develop a sound long-term project, so he has signed for the next five seasons.
“Schuster, backed by his extensive background as a player and Coach, joins Malaga having worked with, among others, Real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk, Besiktas, Getafe, Levante.
“He will be presented as the new Coach next week.”
Manchester City Football Club is pleased to announce the appointment of Manuel Pellegrini as first team manager.
Pellegrini, who joins the Club on a three year contract, will take up the role from 24th June.
Reacting to his appointment Pellegrini said: “I am delighted to accept this hugely exciting opportunity. The Club has a clear vision for success both on and off the pitch and I am committed to making a significant contribution.
"Everything is in place for Manchester City to continue to be successful and I am excited to be able to work with such a talented squad, the Executive team and the Board to deliver for fans who are renowned for their steadfast support.”
Commenting on the appointment, Chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak said: “Manuel is a hugely experienced and successful manager with a proven track record.
"We have been greatly impressed throughout the selection process by his philosophy, his attitude and his commitment to the long term development of Manchester City. I am
delighted that he has joined us"
Echoing these sentiments, Chief Executive Officer Ferran Soriano said: “Manuel is a very experienced coach with a recognised ability to get the most out of his players and build cohesive teams. He shares the Club’s approach to football and our ambition to achieve on field success, coordinating with the wider football support teams to ensure natural progression from the Academy to senior level"
Manuel Pellegrini has more than 25 years of managerial experience during which time he has led clubs in his native Chile, Ecuador and Argentina to six major trophies, including League titles with LDU Quito and Argentinian sides River Plate and San Lorenzo.
His last nine years have been spent in Spain where he has impressed with his management of Villarreal, Real Madrid and most recently Malaga.
Kinda jealous. I think Pellegrini is a great manager.
I hope he fails in England though.
Wigan Athletic are delighted to confirm the appointment of new manager Owen Coyle.
Following discussions with the club on Friday afternoon, the 46-year-old has now agreed terms to become the 37th manager of the club and begins work immediately. He will be formally presented to the media early next week.
Coyle began his managerial career in 2003 with Falkirk, for whom he also played for on 36 occasions, and in 2003 lifted the First Division title to gain promotion to the Scottish Premier League.
Two years later, the former Republic of Ireland international was named St Johnstone manager, suffering final day heartbreak in the 2006/07 campaign, when his side narrowly missed out on promotion to the top flight after finishing second in the league.
In November 2007 he was unveiled as Burnley Manager, and followed up a mid-table finish in his first season with the magnificent achievement of promotion to the Barclays Premier League in his second, guiding the Clarets to victory in the play-off final at Wembley with victory over Sheffield United.
Coyle spent three years at Burnley before moving to the Reebok Stadium to become manager of Bolton Wanderers in 2010, where he had spent two years as a player in the mid-1990s and helped to gain promotion from Division One in 1995.
Whilst at Bolton he was twice named the Barclays Premier League Manager of the Month, collecting the award in November 2010 and March 2012. Two-and-a-half years at the Reebok came to an end in October 2012 after 126 games in charge of the Trotters.
Rene Girard, who steered Montpellier to the French Ligue 1 title in 2011/12, has been appointed coach at Lille, AFP learned on Friday.
Talks about his appointment finished late on Thursday, a source with knowledge of the discussions indicated, confirming news first reported in Le Parisien daily.
The 59-year-old Girard, who was in line for the post with Borussia Moenchengladbach's Swiss coach Lucien Favre, takes over at Lille from Rudi Garcia, who has left for AS Roma.
The appointment was due to be made official later Friday or Saturday and he will be formally unveiled next week.
Girard, a midfielder for Nimes and Bordeaux in his playing days, will be the third coach under the presidency of Michel Seydoux, who has run the club since 2002.
Claude Puel, manager between 2002 and 2008, and Garcia both secured qualification for the Champions League in 2005/6 and 2006/7.
Garcia also steered Lille to the league and cup double in 2010/11.
Lille finished sixth in Ligue 1 last season and will not compete in European competition for the first time since 2008.
Left back Michal Kadlec is leaving Bayer 04 Leverkusen to join the top flight Turkish club Fenerbahce.
The Czech Republic international joined the Werkself in 2008. The 28-year-old has now penned a deal in Turkey. Both clubs agreed not to disclose details of the transfer.
“Michal was a key player at Bayer 04 over the past few years. He has been impressive on the pitch and he worked his way up to a highly respected position in Leverkusen. We would like to wish him well for the future,” said Bayer 04 sporting director Rudi Völler.
Kinda jealous. I think Pellegrini is a great manager.
I hope he fails in England though.
Lovren to Southampton. Good signing for them
Southampton have signed Lyon and Croatia defender Dejan Lovren on a four-year contract.
Carlisle United are delighted to announce that manager Greg Abbott has made his first summer signing as former-Liverpool, Preston and Tranmere wide man David Amoo joins the club on a two-year deal.
Amoo, 22, put pen-to-paper this morning on a deal which will run to 30 June 2015.
"David fits the bill of the type of player we want to bring into the squad," Abbott said.
"He's quick and exciting on the ball and we think he'll bring a bit of the pace and flair we've been talking about."
"The important thing for us is that he wants to play football," he continued. "He's at an age where he's ready to kick on and, hopefully, that's exactly what will happen here with us.
"He's one we're really looking forward to working with."
London-born Amoo started his career as a youngster with Millwall but was quickly snapped up by Merseyside giants Liverpool at the age of 16.
Whilst at Anfield he enjoyed loan spells with MK Dons, Hull and Bury. His time with the Shakers brought four goals in 27 appearances which earned him a permanent move to Deepdale in July 2012 once his contract at Anfield had expired.
He joined Tranmere on a six-month deal in January this year and scored one goal in his 11 appearances at Prenton Park.
