Don't get me wrong Jules, I was up for us signing Anelka at the time and again when we signed Morientes
but I just don't quite buy the argument that Anelka would have been amazing and no trouble at all when he had been trouble for other clubs before and went on to be trouble elsewhere after he left.
The huge mistake was signing Diouf. That made the not signing Anelka a bigger issue than perhaps it would have been.

If true that could well have had an impact on the decision to bring in Diouf.

No mate, that was Ginola, who failed to take the ball into the corner and keep it there in the final minutes against Bulgaria, who then broke away and scored a winner when all France needed was a draw. If Anelka had done that, GH would never have signed him even on loan. He was definitely not the forgiving kind.
