I really thought this team were better than this tournament has shown

Honey Monster clearly slow coming back from injury

Tactics wrong - 2 man midfield was over run

Keane was anonymous - but no supply mind.

An embarrassment and YES I will continue to support the country and the manager. (no smart arse remarks, I'm f-ing ticked off tonight).
 
Jesus lads, how is anybody surprised by this? We're probably the poorest team in the tournament. We just don't have the talent. It's nobody's fault, it just is...

We used to have the skipper of Liverpool and Man Utd and Arsenal... We used to have legends like McGrath and Whelan and Judas and Aldo and Brady and Irwin. Now look at us. I'm not dissapointed. Or embarrassed. We're just not good enough.

Going into this, I thought we'd get one point, purely 'cos I thought Italy were floundering. Not anymore...

Well said.
The hype that was generated was usually by people who didn't actually watch us qualify.
Journalists who were impressed by our stats and non footballing types that knew little about what we were truly like.
FWIW I thought we would be a bit more solid and perhaps pick up two nil all draws but we were always going to struggle to score goals.
 
It was painful to watch, but getting to the Euros was itself an achievement and something good can be built on this.

Mostly this although I thought our point would be against Croatia.

We certainly arnt nearly good enough and how anyone could have been confident of getting anything out of a match against the European and World champions is hard to understand.

Having said that, IMO we left some better players at home than we brought and even in the squad that we did bring we left some better players on the bench than we used on the pitch at times. For example Simon Cox got seven starts for WBA last season whereas Shane Long was an ever present when fit.

If we had started with Long, McLean, and Coleman as well as the eleven we started with last night, we still would have lost.

As someone else said, we don't have the players. We needed our best players Given and Dunne, to have miracle performances, but unfortunately they are not what they used to be.

Gerry I wasnt saying we would have won. I wasnt even particularly talking about last nights match. I was talking about us in general.

There are some decent young players coming through, they're starting to be signed by big clubs, they'll hopefully pick up enough insights from sports science to make the likes of John O'Shea gutbuckets a thing of the past and they'll progress. It'll need patience but Ireland will come back better than this.

I know, but I'm of the belief that if Trap had listened to the media with the likes of Andy Reid etc. we would never have got this far. He had a philosophy that qualified us for the first time in 24 years and only the second time ever, with possibly the worst group of players we've had since the 60's. I mean we don't have any players playing at a top club, not one. It was a miracle to even qualify. So I'll give Trap the benefit of the doubt as to why he chose Cox over Long, he obviously knows more about the game than I do.

Spot on.

We never stood a chance against Spain, no matter what team we played. Last Sunday was where we fucked up.
