Ciabatta - tips?

I know we have a few posters who bake their own bread. Any of you have tips on making a relatively quick ciabatta at home?

I'm attempting a recipe using instant yeast and no starter. It's in it's second hour of proofing now, but I don't have a good feeling about it.

Is a proper starter a must for reproducing a good ciabatta?
