Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

It's coming up on near 4 months of virtual quarantining for me and the wife and I think we're starting to go stir crazy.

I damaged my achilles heel end of November and was confined to bed to keep the foot elevated, the Doc said 4-6 months to heel, and then after a month the C-19 started and I was semi-quarantined in Wenzhou (not that far from Wuhan) and then we got out of there (train) and back to Shanghai just 3 days before the total lockdown in Wenzhou, just in time for the social distancing regulations to go into effect in Shanghai!

Mid-Feb we came over to Vienna and self quarantined for 2 weeks and ended that just before the home quarantining came into effect here in Austria! We've had a couple of days out here and there (and I do walk in the nearby woods when I can, 6-7 kms x4-5 times a week) but probably less than 2 weeks out of the house in the last 4 months. Putting on weight and going nuts !

I'd definitely prefer to be in China right now

I’ve found myself working from home until 9:30 at night because the little shits need attention during the day. And drinking pint cans of Heineken. This shit needs to fuck off.

My sister left hong kong, went to England, then went back to hong kong, with a short stop in Thailand. Nanny for the childcare. Had to quarantine for 2 weeks, but with a definite end point, that's a doddle.

Being rich must be nice.

You poor bastard.

Heineken!!!!!

Thoughts & prayers.

Supposedly Heineken tastes amazing in Holland, when it’s freshly brewed - according to someone I know. But I’ve never been and he might be exaggerating.

With Covid-19 you appaz lose your sense of smell and taste, so everything will be »nice» when your sick

There's about a million fucking symptoms.

Just a continuous cough or fever is enough to be classed as a symptom. Also, stomach pains, muscle aches, head ache, dizziness, disorientation, runny nose, sore ears, tightness in the chest, diarrhoea are also possible symptoms.

I could just as easily have a normal but virulent bug right now & there's no way of knowing without a test.

It's being found that men are much more likely to die from it. 70 percent of the deaths in Italy were men.

Saying it might be linked to both smoking and lack of hand washing rather than any genetic differences.

Think my wife may have a medium dose of it.

Initially thought she had a sinus infection but it seems to have moved to her chest. A few fairly frightening moments when her breathing has become laboured. Waiting on the GP to call back with instructions.

Easy to see how this would take down an older person or someone with side issues.

Perspective.

Chances of catching the virus is pretty low despite the panic. As has ever been the case, not even in China (chance of catching C-19 is 20,000 to 1. or even Italy (800/1) or Thailand (75,000/1) or in fact anywhere. Those odds will drop over time but as the timelines of China and South Korea have shown, the vast majority of people won't catch this virus (and of those that do 85% will likely remain unaware they had it) ! And of those that do contract it only between 0.5% and 3% will die.

To put that into perspective the lifetime odds of dying in the USA (courtesy of Insurance Information Institute, extrapolate for UK etc.) from one of the following are wa way higher than C-19 :-

Firearms : 285/1
Car Crash : 572/1
As a Pedestrian 556/1
Motorcycle riders : 858/1
Exposure to Smoke/Fire : 1,474
Falling down steps : 1,672/1
Drowning : 5,732/1
Falling from a ladder : 7,283/1

and the big one : Accidental poisoning by and exposure to
noxious substances 64/1 (Opioids - including both legal and illegal 96/1)

People started panicking here since it was announced that there would be no alcohol sales or transport of booze whatsoever from midnight tonight.

In China there was less disparity after contracting it : chance of dying was 2.8% women and 4.5% men.
