Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

We’ve found the last member of Ross and Dantes group:

My child, you need a science degree, a phd, postdoctoral research experience, mathematical modelling experience, and levels of intelligence you were never capable of achieving to become a member of my group. But it is ok, do not despair, you will still receive the blessings of our lord if you repent.

No one’s giving a fuck about COVID in Australia.

I wouldn’t say things are back to normal, as such, because some things are never going back to what they were previously.

That’s both good and bad.

I feel sorry for all these fit people.

They should all get on the beers - it works wonders.

I’m blaming the booster for my lack intensity in my last 6 a side game too, I was a top top player before that…

Be thankful the opponents who are now half your age only left you for dead after skinning you, instead of leaving you for dead after you became dead.

You haven’t seem me play Dantes, I would batter you and anyone half my age in any form of football even with boosters loaded…
Head and volleys, Wembley, kerby, three and In, anytime…

Let's stick to 6-a-side, below head height, no slide tackles. That just leaves you with your volleys that we both know you couldn't keep down even in your prime. I on the other hand have unimaginable intelligence, acceleration, the body weight of a small child, and a left foot. Not dissimilar to Lionel Messi's best attributes. You'd end up getting violated again.

Anytime, I will run rings around your little lefty time and time again in the same way Joe smashed Donald in 2020 while your on the floor panting with mathematical equations running through your head like a dazed toon in space jam…
Make sure you bring a strong 6 though, you are going to need em.

Interesting article about the latest "wave" in Israel which thankfully hasn't materialized (though 2 of my kids were +, thankfully with no sypmtoms):
[article]The leading epidemiologist Prof. Nadav Davidovitch agreed. He said the rise in cases was limited due to the fact that immunity levels are high — a point that Katz also made. But he said that “common sense” had a major impact.

“People now aren’t waiting for rules before they respond,” Davidovitch, a Ben Gurion University academic and leader of Israel’s doctors’ union, told The Times of Israel.

“There are many commonsense reactions, and despite the pandemic fatigue, people have started to react based on these reactions. What we’re seeing is in a sense a normalization of COVID, and acceptance of the fact we’re living with it, which means that when cases start to rise people know how to react, and conduct themselves accordingly.”[/article]

[article]

The researchers tracked the health of just over one million people who tested positive for Covid between February 2020 and May 2021 in Sweden, and compared them with four million people of the same age and sex who had not had a positive test.
After a Covid infection, they found an increased risk of:
  • blood clots in the leg, or deep vein thrombosis (DVT), for up to three months
  • blood clots in the lungs, or pulmonary embolism, for up to six months
  • internal bleeding, such as a stroke, for up to two months
When the researchers compared the risks of blood clots after Covid to the normal level of risk, they found that:
  • four in every 10,000 Covid patients developed DVT compared with one in every 10,000 people who didn't have Covid
  • about 17 in every 10,000 Covid patients had a blood clot in the lung compared with fewer than one in every 10,000 who did not have Covid
The study, published in the BMJ, said the raised risk of blood clots was higher in the first wave than later waves, probably because treatments improved during the pandemic and older patients were starting to be vaccinated by the second wave.

Blood clots can also occur after vaccination but the risk is far smaller, a major UK study found.

Doesn't @Frogfish live in Shanghai?
Shanghai is looking at a 4 week+ lockdown.

I saw they separated infected kids/toddlers from their parents, but after pressure from the people, they stopped doing it.

If you are in Shanghai, can you not leave your home at all?

Best of luck.

Cheers mate.

Not so bad for us as we live in a villa and have a large garden but no we're not supposed to leave our premises. But for many living in apartments without any outdoor space it's beginning to take its toll.

They have just kept extending the lockdown, initially 5 days it's now up to around 2 weeks and there's talk of not opening up at all until 1st May. If that is the case then food is definitely going to be a problem for many (we luckily did our monthly Costco shopping a day before we found out we were going into lockdown and today had a huge veggie delivery (ca. 50 kgs) from the local supermarket - a good friend of a friend put us in touch with the manager. We offered most to the neighbours around the compound (we have a group WeChat forum going that is used to share info) so despite the 'ban' on movement we had a lot of neighbours turning up to pick up bags of provisions !

Milk and dairy a problem, I've not been able to make a cappuccino at home for two days (and for the immediate future) ! Haha. Though again we are supposed to have a milk delivery in a few days. Cheese, butter and chocolate all off the menu for now though.

The separating children issue has been resolved and rescinded. Utterly stupid to start with.

I completely understood why they were doing this with earlier variants, but the UK and other countries have shown there is little point to lockdowns with Omicron. Unfortunately the Chinese Govt. so thoroughly terrified the population with previous massive lockdowns, warnings as the potential consequences and testing (we've had at least 10 tests in the past 3 weeks - I've lost count TBH) that many used to believe this is the best way - though that tide is turning fast and I believe that the Govt. is also slowly trying to educate the population to the reality of Omicron so that these lockdowns won't be necessary going forward (just show your vaccine history - it's stored in a few of the apps we use). Though likely not before this wave has passed. That and of course they need to save face.

TBH people don't seem that concerned with the virus now - what terrifies them is getting Covid and having to go to a Govt. facility for 2 weeks !

But isn’t that a contradiction regarding education of the public? They’re doing ridiculous lockdowns, and decided, though rescinded, at one point that it made sense to separate infected kids from parents. If anything they seem to want to scare the public even more?
Hope you’re doing alright by the way!

Hi mate - all good !

My wife is organising some of the deliveries for our compound (man that is a tough job!) so those deliveries aside people also swap food with us so except for the luxuries we're good. I also heard some of the compounds are now opening up.

By educate I mean that they are slowly changing the way they address Omicron (not in Shanghai for this outbreak but there are signs) so I think they'll start to handle it differently, however without losing face or it seeming like a Govt. climbdown.

The issue is that Beijing didn't like what Shanghai was doing, far too liberal letting people get on with their lives, even though the previous Shanghai policies were working just fine Beijing sends Commissar Sun Chunlan to Shanghai to take charge ... and everything we are seeing now is as a result of her far stricter policies (which change day by day depending on the kickback from people (neighbourhood riots etc. which I'm not sure you get to see).

According to official stats : Not one death in Shanghai (from Omicron) however don't know how many died because they shut most of the hospitals. Idiots. They can't have it both ways, if it's that dangerous where are the deaths, if it's not then why are we all locked down? Sigh again.

CV test #13 within the last 3 weeks tomorrow !

How's it in Japan? Hope you are all doing well.
