Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

What gets me is the people who are against the restrictions but want Djokovic to suffer them too, just because they had to. Misery loves company.

The problem is the law, not Djokovic - though he does seem like a nut. And what the people should want is a high profile case like this to expose the draconian rulings and policies. That way, they might actually change.

To be honest, I think you’re missing the point entirely here.

This case isn’t about draconian rules - the rule in question is that you can get a medical exemption from vaccination if you tested positive within 5 months - a criteria which he seemingly met and provided proof of.

The issue is, the Federal Government ignored their own rules to make an example of Djokovic - for some reason.

That’s balls regardless about what you think of Djokovic.

I also don’t think it’s anything to do with people wanting him to suffer like they had - it’s more about things being applied fairly. The problem is partly because international border restrictions have now been relaxed compared to what they were - so you get lots of people comparing things to their situation ages ago and asking a fairly legitimate question about the consistency and fairness of the rules.

You’ve got to remember the initial exemption was provided via the Victorian Government, which was responsible for the harshest lockdowns (not Border restrictions - that’s still WA - you can barely get in there from other parts of Australia).

This is an utter shit show - but is as much about the sheer incompetence of the current government who have pretty much stuffed up at every point throughout the whole thing - and remember these are the “free marketeers”, “minimal Government interventionists” and “we must live with COVID”, “open up” and “personal responsibilities” type clowns.

No, I'm talking specifically about the people who see the laws and lawmakers as draconian and don't agree with them, but still want penalties applied to Djokovic even though they would be on his side of the fence. I'm not debating the technicalities of the laws itself. But regards to Djokovic, he tested positive and was out mixing with people the next day, so he's a bit of a weapon, even if I don't believe the virus is the apocalyptic plague it's made out to be.

I'm going to talk overly simplistically for the purpose of getting my point across... if people were suddenly punished for wearing red T-shirts and were unhappy about that, but then saw Djokovic swan in with his red T-shirt and get away with it on a technicality, people shouldn't be angry at Djokovic and want him punished like they were. (I'm seeing a lot of that online... "we weren't allowed to see dying relatives because of the law, so he should be deported.") They should be frustrated with the lawmakers and the law they disagree with and look to challenge them whichever way they can.

When the family is asked questions about what Djokovic was doing the day after he tested positive for Covid, they stopped the press conference.
Djordje said: “This press conference is adjourned thank you for attention.”

Ben Rothenberg is a gobshite and one of Novak biggest haters. Why don't you read replies to that post... Everyone else has scanned positive result but him.

Looks like someone updated the site, and some people are getting the cached version, and others are getting the updated version. Nothing to see here.

So someone updating the test result is nothing to see? Er...

The only thing to see is this schrodinger update / non-update has the effect of (1) giving novax a plausible excuse for believing he had covid, it was just a simple administrative error on the website, not his fault, and (2) it can turn out after all that he never had covid, so all those events he went to the following days are fine, no harm was done, nobody died or got infected by him, move along, nothing to see here.

I agree - the issue is with the lawmakers. What I’m suggesting is, that the lawmakers made a political calculation that it would be easy to whip up a bit of popular support by doing a bit of “us and them”.

It’s the law bit that’s actually fine and clear here - unless you’re suggesting that people should be angry that exemptions exist.

The missus, for example, believes he shouldn’t have been able to apply for an exemption and should have just been barred from entry from the start unless he was willing to do a 2 week quarantine.

I’m a little bit more forgiving to my master... kind of Vader to her Emperor Palpatine.

I'd agree with you.. except..

Applications were to be in by 10th December.

He tested positive on 16th December.

Why does Novak get the special treatment?

The fishy part is.. Tennis Australia say they didn't get an updated application after the 10th December.

So why is he allowed to have the exemption? It couldn't have been on his original application. Or if it was, he lied about it.

If you or I lied on our VISA, we'd be denied entry. End of story

Yeah - totally and some other stuff is coming out about prior travel.

However, I’m sure I read somewhere that he’d been given some sort of extension on the application.

Thing is - if that was all the case they would have cancelled the visa or right of entry prior to travelling... surely.

My read is that he found a loophole and exploited it - part of that will be his status and willingness of TA & VicGov to wave him through - it’s in their interests for him to play - ScoMo has never gonna been a toss about Melbourne or tennis - if it had been cricket or rugby league Djokovic had been coming in to play in Sydney - this wouldn’t have happened.

He’s getting kicked out. More lies from Djokovic.

[article]
The Australian Border Force is investigating whether Novak Djokovicincorrectly declared he had not travelled and would not do so for two weeks before his flight to Australia, in the latest twist in the tennis star’s visa cancellation saga.
Questions have been raised about the declaration completed by an agent for Djokovic, with social media posts seemingly showing he was in Belgrade on Christmas Day before flying to Australia from Spain on 4 January.

To me this is the proof that it's a political decision , they're now looking for another way to refuse him entry unrelated to Covid.

So then the restrictions and the basis for them doesn't come under scrutiny in Court.

Definitely. Had it been you or I they wouldn’t be going through our social media to work out a timeline of what we were doing. They’d take our word for it unless they had any other evidence.

As someone who has had to defend border refusals that's exactly what I used to do.

My favourite story was the time the male sex worker who "fucked like a champ" was refused entry to the State. His lawyers had no idea why he was here.

That was the day I learned what a top verso was.
