Chinese "Devil Virus" - anyone worried?

Man they are old hat. And fake. They did the rounds in China ages ago. To believe them you'd have to also believe that there isn't a single medical authority or Govt worldwide that hasn't clicked to other potential symptoms of the virus. This belongs in the Bluefume conspiracy theory thread.

To take this further let's assume that any video you've seen is genuine .. how do you (or anyone else until they have been tested) know it is due to C-19 and not any other disease people collapse from ?

Yeah but we're not talking about ONE Govt. It's a pandemic. Not a single Govt/medical institution has given any indications of anything even remotely similar to those videos. Are there any videos like that from Italy or Korea ? That's strange don't you find ? And it's not so strange you can't find explanations because those videos originated in China .... so unless you speak Chinese 😉

Again, C-19 is a flu virus. It would take a massive leap of Rosco-like proportions to start crediting it with symptoms more akin to a Walking Dead episode.

Why are they fighting over toilet roll? Do they think the virus gives you the squits?

There's some (albeit limited & ill applied) logic behind this.

The majority of loo roll is apparently from China, which will lead to supply chain issues & shortages (although I struggle to believe other suppliers won't be able to at least fill a lot of the gap).

Factor in that at some point almost every household is looking at two weeks trapped in their house, so the amount they use will be hugely increased.

The thing is though, we have a family of five. Including kids who are liberal in their use of loo roll, & we use a maximum of 9 rolls a week when we're all off work & school, it's usually about 4/5 when everyone is in work & school.

So that's 18 rolls for a two week supply. I can't imagine that many households are bigger than ours.

So what was a logic based reason to simply buy a bit more, has somehow become 'let's buy as much as we can so we won't run out!', hence meaning others inevitably do run out.

I've worked out how much food, loo roll, & other essentials we need for two weeks. It's really not that much. I'll be buying it this week as & when & storing it in the chest freezer & utility room. No more than the two weeks supply though, cos that's literally all we'd possibly need.

There is a separate & much more important debate to be had about how much alcohol we'll need, being trapped in the house with the kids for 14 fucking days though!

I think I would go mad if I had to quarantine myself with the kids for 14 days.

During the flu wars bog roll will become the new currency. That's what the haters don't understand. It's not about wiping your arse, it's about the new barter economy where four bog rolls equals one cremation.

Yet again, even this (in that scenario where everything falls apart) is arguably better than buying gold!

Turns out we do import 99% of our loo roll, but from the EU, not from China.

Interestingly, apparently there's only ever approx a one day supply (for everyone) in stores at any one time due to the rolling warehouse/stock system.

So this does actually mean there's a danger of shortages if the supply chain is stopped for more than a few days. Unlike in Australia, where it's almost all made in their own country.

For this refer to HK where there was recently a major heist of bog roll !

@Mors I think this solves the issue of where to park your recently liquidated funds ... bog roll companies.

That's the obvious thing to do, which means everyone has already done it. He'd be better off going to the start of the value chain, to the logging companies that supply the constituent paper, and parking his money with them.

Doesnt the new WHO report show that the mortality rate is down to 0,7 % for people affected after the 1st of Feb?
The high number reported early was due to the type of people that are tested first, old and with other illnesses that were omtted to hospital and tested. Just like it was with the Swine flu.

Anyway, we have 155 people affected in Norway and none are in a bad state or have died yet. The latest numbers show that its about 0,4 % mortality rate for my age group, 40-49. A bit higher than the usual flu.

Funny reading the conspiracy theories on here. But as it is with a lot of other things, just calm down. This isnt the start of World War Z.

The mortality rate is probably lower as well, because many that are affected but in a mild way, wont seek help or get tested.

Guys... I've got the solution to Corona virus we all need to become wankers for next month..

'Masturbation also improves immune functioning by increasing cortisol levels, which can regulate immune functioning in small doses. It can also reduce depression by increasing the amount of endorphins in the bloodstream.'

Though I think this might explain as to the reasons why every supermarket has ran out of toilet rolls.

We had what I’ll describe as a near miss.

The missus, who is a paramedic, got called to a job and after treating an elderly patient for fever like & respiratory problems then loading them into the back of the Ambulance - they find out that the patient had just returned from Singapore - where they’d spent time in hospital with flu like symptoms.

They had to pull over at the side of the road, get the full hazmat suits on before continuing to drive to the hospital.

She was very close to being sent home to self-isolate - which means I’d have to do the same.

Thankfully - the info was inaccurate about Singapore - turns out the patient had come back months ago and didn’t meet the criteria for a potential C-19 case on initial assessment.

I’m definitely getting this virus at some point - thank Christ I have plenty of wine in the garage.

Clearly a couple of factors that went unconsidered (or should I say considered but as far as official figures were concerned couldn't be factored in) were that, as estimates from the UK stated, there were probably x10 more people infected than reported, even allowing for any suppression or misreporting, simply due to mild/zero symptoms. So even if a number of fatalities also went unreported (suppression or simply not diagnosed) then the actual mortality rate, based on reported infections to fatalities, was wildly off-base.

A couple of graphs for your consideration :
