The debt-ridden company behind Chester City FC has today been wound up, the club has confirmed.

Chester City FC 2004 Ltd failed to settle its debts with HM Revenue & Customs resulting in the adjudication at the High Court in London this morning.

In January, the company was given six weeks to finalise proposals for a Company Voluntary Arrangement (CVA) aimed at enabling the club to clear its immediate debts – £26,125 of which is owed to the taxman.

Meanwhile, Cardiff City have been given 56 days and Southend 35 days to settle their own winding-up orders.

its a sorry state of affairs whats happened to them..

Given the state of football in the lower leagues and the lack of monies, cardiff have 56 days to pay unpaid tax or face being wound up.. Southend have 35 days. it becoming a trend.

For me the premiership is killing football. Their is too much money in it.. the wealth needs to be spread.

£25k taxes and £200k debts apparently. Its nothing compared to some. Disappointing.

Owen could afford it no problem.

He's just a heartless cunt.

So say Owen saves Chester now... should he save them again in 2-3 years time?? Rush could also have a whip around etc.

We are in a unique position where we have 4 professional tiers of football, is that too many? Probably... But it's part of our history!

Considering he once said he'd like to play for them some day, I think he should really.

Or someone should step up.

That's no money at all really.

Cardiff - aren't they run by Ridsdale ? You think he's learn from his mistakes.

The interesting thing about all these court actions is that it's the Revenue that are forcing all these clubs to the wall.

They are making a point. In all other winding up orders they are the number one creditors. Except in football. I was listening to a programme on 5live about it a few weeks ago.

Why haven't they had a points deduction yet? I thought they had appointed an administrator?
[/quote]

They only get it if they finish within 9 points (I think) of safety, if they don't the deduction carries over to next year.

Many clubs in the conference are fully professional too

I know these are businesses and strictly speaking it is their own fault if they go under but its not nice to see. Maybe there should be some kind of emergency fund for clubs in this kind of situation to be able to draw on if they need to

How would you decide who is eligible and who isn't?

I think there needs to be some approval process with regards to business plans, so that chairmen and owners simply can't spend excessively and land the the club in the shit. After all, footballs regulatory bodies main priority should be to protect the supporters, the true custodians of football clubs in this country.

Well indeed. In practice it most probably wouldn't work but thre could be one fund for the Premier League, one for the Football League, one for the Conference etc, with some of their present income being set aside for it and then any club that finds itself in difficulties could apply to borrow from it, possibly with chairmen of the other clubs voting on whether they can or not.

As I say, just a vague idea. In practice I imagine things work very differently
