Chelsea sign Zhirkov
AFP - 29 May 2009 11:00

English Premiership side Chelsea signed Russian international midfielder Yury Zhirkov on a four-year term from Russian three-time champions CSKA Moscow, the daily tabloid Tvoi Den reported Friday.

Reports said that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was excited with Zhirkov's performances this season and has negotiated a 30-million-dollar deal with the Red Army side.

"Yury (Zhirkov) has signed the contract with Chelsea just a day or two ago," the newspaper quoted Zhirkov's agent as saying. "He will join his new team this summer.

No surprises there. Be interesting to see if he's as good as everyone says he is now.

Funnily, Malouda started playing really well under Hiddink.

Sh!t. With Cole and Malouda finding their form again in the latter part of last season, that gives them a shedload of options for the left-hand side.

never heard of him. what's he all about? and how much have they payed?

Extremely attacking lb who can alo play lw. Skillfull, quick, powerful and has a very good cross. IMO was best LB of last summers Euro's.

Not good news lads, not good news. I would of loved to have seen him here.

SSN this lunchtime are carrying a denial from CSKA Moscow that any deal has been done.
[/quote]

Chelsea are denying it too, looks like a load of bull.

its pronounced Jerk Off, that the only way I knew who he was skully *titters*

regards

He will play LW I presume since Cole has LB locked down. Liked what I saw of him in the Euro's too, good signing on paper.

If he does go there (and this evening both clubs are still denying that there's been a deal) I'd have thought he'll be used as an option for either at different times. The Chavs have been without a real alternative at LB since Bridge left, and Malouda was in much better form than Cole towards the end of the season.

Malouda was in much better form than Cole?

Yeah, great, although it is actually fucking shite given that;
A) Cole plays at Lb and Malouda lw
B) Cole has had a superb season anyway

The Joe Cole who hasn't played for 6 months because of injury

Oh dear

A) Since when have comparisons between the form of different players depended on them playing the same position?

B) Cole's season was mostly excellent but he tailed off in the last few weeks, just as Malouda finally began to show the kind of form he showed at Lyon before arriving here.

I nearly did once

When the doctor slapped your @rse?

So Malouda showing form at LW at last, and Ashley Cole having a great season at LB, but tailing off a bit, has got EXACTLY WHAT TO DO WITH FUCKING ANYTHING?

Anyone?

Zhirkov can play in both of them, but with that analysis, will not actually play at all because both people are in form respectively for mutually exclusive positions?

No. An earlier post said Zhirkov would definitely play LW because Cole has LB locked down. I don't think it's that cut and dried, and was suggesting reasons why.

Ashley Cole has had a brilliant season
