I don't think it would of, didn't parry and moores think he was to up himself. Hence why they offered ot to Benitez.

I thought we wanted to speak to him but he said he had given his word to Chelsea.

The team has looked completely out of sorts since pre-season and Rafa has been unable to really affect any sort of change. The young players are looking for leadership and the experienced players are looking for new clubs like they're sinking from the responsibility on their shoulders and the disappointment of how things have turned out.

The 'mentality' Rafa so often singles out as being the most important aspect of a footballer is horribly lacking across the board. We have no passion, desire, confidence and any winning mentality we once had has been crushed. Even the organization and work ethic of previous seasons has gone to pot, which for a Rafa team truly does mean rock bottom.

At most other clubs - particularly those in the CL - 3 wins out of 15 would mean the sack no questions asked. Rafa however has the benefit of being in quite a unique situation. The fans are very patient and loyal (relative to other clubs), the situation behind the scenes is a fucking mess, which distracts from on the field matters and finally, there is no outstanding candidate to succeed him.

Hiddink is on the Chelsea payroll and Capello is a no go, which leaves Mourinho who many have issues with and is probably going to view us as a little to risky to his resume. We'd probably have to take a punt on an up and coming manager or someone who has done well at a smaller club and given how our 'punts' have turned out in recent years that just scares the life out of me (as I'm sure it does many others). Right now, we have no option but to stick with Rafa.

I'm still clinging onto the belief that with a fitter Gerrard, Torres and Aquilani, the team will get a couple wins on the board and slowly start to rebuild it's confidence on the way to getting that 4th place. There are a lot of decisions that need to be taken both on the field and off of it, however for now, we're just going to have to grit our teeth and hope the players don't drown in their own misery.

The only choice of someone who knows the EPL would be MON and I don't think many would want him or that he would even come.

Tom and George. Use some of the money you've earned from selling your assets in the US. Sack Rafa, hire a new manager and give him some money to spend in this transfer window.
Here's another who'd seemingly be happy to put their faith in good ol' Tom and George in finding a decent replacement for Benitez.

*sigh* Yanks out etc.

It's dark place.

And even harder to not post negative stuff.

Well, it's better than being consistently anti-Rafa and getting banned.

The story was that we were very interested in him until his Porto shenanigans against the Scum; but Rafa was probably a favourite after his Valencia dismantled us.

Valencia; now that's something which seems a lifetime ago.

When everyone wakes up, someone give me a run down of how we're gonna sell this skint sack of shit to one of the aforementioned managers.
I think restoring us to former glory and doing one better than Rafa managed would be the incentive Jose needs.

Not to mention he'd get the "You can't do it without loads of money" comment off his back.

I think he'd take us on.

I don't think so.

I hope he isn't because it's pure BS - a few of the mods, past and present, were/are very anti-Rafa, as are many posters on this site. It has nothing to do with why he was banned.

Am I one of the few left that despite this shit and disappointment with Rafa's tactics/player decisions STILL thinks Rafa can turn this around? I don't know why ... I guess I haven't reached Andy's 'place' yet.

And I thought people said he was like Shanks running down the touchline.

His Valencia side was amazing. We have never consistently reached that level which is bitterly disappointing.

I also remember Rafa's unveiling where the key point by Parry was that we wanted a manager that could compete for the league straight off the bat and they thought Rafa was the man for this.

:'(
The sum of all human understanding can be summed up in just two words. Wait and hope.

If Mourinho's Inter get beat in the next round of the CL, he'll be availeble in the summer.

My guess is, that we'll have to live with Benitez until the summer, so let's hope we can pull off a better second half of the season and scrape 4th..

Don't Avy, it's too painful to think about how good that team was and how beautiful their football was. I remember getting bitch slapped on here last year, because I moaned about the turgid dreary shit we were playing (this was before the Mancs and Real games) while we were top of the league. One half season of exciting (because even then it wasn't the prettiest) football in 5 years (and counting) is a joke, it's like somebody lobotomized the part of Rafa's brain, before he came to us, that contained the method for playing that kind of football. :'(

The next 2 games are massive. Weak opposition and anything other than wins in both could mean the end for Rafa.

There is an irrational sentimental part of me that thinks if we stick with Rafa he'll win the league for us next season. Adversity is often followed by wonderful moments.

Like I said irrational.

Yes indeed.
Because the tactical genious that he is he would have brought Skrtel on and put him up front when we resorted to hoofball yesterday.
