It would have been helpful if he said that at the time

I don't think it would of, didn't parry and moores think he was to up himself. Hence why they offered ot to Benitez.
Benitez. Humble. Open to suggestions. In no way arrogant or concieted.

Parry and Moores - how were we wrong.

Ok.

I want someone who's managed in the Premiership before or knows the English game inside out.

I'd be prepared to give any new manager the required levels of patience, but I don't want to sit around for two years while he figures out the Premier League or learns the language.

Mourinho, Hiddink, Capello would all be worth chasing, though I doubt any would come.

Thats the problem Squiggs even if Rafa did leave/sacked, who's going to want to come AND is good enough?

Jose and Capello are both obvious choices, but i can't see either of them wanting the job (Capello has stated that England will be his last role in management) Hiddink is old and has a very patchy record + i think he's still getting paid by Abramovich.

Unless we get a cash injection from somewhere i honestly think we're better off with Rafa for the time being.

I pretty much agree to be honest.

The team has looked completely out of sorts since pre-season and Rafa has been unable to really affect any sort of change. The young players are looking for leadership and the experienced players are looking for new clubs like they're sinking from the responsibility on their shoulders and the disappointment of how things have turned out.

The 'mentality' Rafa so often singles out as being the most important aspect of a footballer is horribly lacking across the board. We have no passion, desire, confidence and any winning mentality we once had has been crushed. Even the organization and work ethic of previous seasons has gone to pot, which for a Rafa team truly does mean rock bottom.

At most other clubs - particularly those in the CL - 3 wins out of 15 would mean the sack no questions asked. Rafa however has the benefit of being in quite a unique situation. The fans are very patient and loyal (relative to other clubs), the situation behind the scenes is a fucking mess, which distracts from on the field matters and finally, there is no outstanding candidate to succeed him.

Hiddink is on the Chelsea payroll and Capello is a no go, which leaves Mourinho who many have issues with and is probably going to view us as a little to risky to his resume. We'd probably have to take a punt on an up and coming manager or someone who has done well at a smaller club and given how our 'punts' have turned out in recent years that just scares the life out of me (as I'm sure it does many others). Right now, we have no option but to stick with Rafa.

I'm still clinging onto the belief that with a fitter Gerrard, Torres and Aquilani, the team will get a couple wins on the board and slowly start to rebuild it's confidence on the way to getting that 4th place. There are a lot of decisions that need to be taken both on the field and off of it, however for now, we're just going to have to grit our teeth and hope the players don't drown in their own misery.

How long can this continue then Andy? I know he's been great for us. But you can't live on old medals and honors, it's about now.

6 defeats in the league in 16 games, twatted out of the CL and the season finished in december. We can't live with that.

Thankfully it's only 243 days until next season.
I hate Rafa everyone knows that, it's not new information, but for the last 12 months I've been CONVINCED he was the man to win us the league (after four years of thinking he was a lucky chancer who would win fuck all again) and as such I've defended him through thick and thin and accepted the excuses (most of them genuine and acceptable) and been happy to sit and bide my time awaiting the return of OUR title safe in the knowledge that he hasn't lost the players, and isn't overly cautious and he did realise in that glorious 10 game spell last season that wecould actually go out and dominate teams and games, and I've been sure, certain, positive that this was the case and the luck, beachballs, injuries, poor decisions etc would swing in our favour and allow us time to surge past the pretenders and claim our throne.
I was wrong. I don't think Rafa can turn it round and I want a change of manager. As soon as possible.
We need a new man with fresh ideas and a fresh impotus, familiarity has indeed bred contempt.

I just don't think he is the man to succeed in England and haven't for 2 years now.

What a surprise.
Whats your problem?
I'm not going to get on Rafas back, I still want him to succeed, I'm not going to start picking holes in every decision, but the 3 wins in 15 games, out of 3 competitions, 13 points of the top of the league and worst of all ball-less, gutless shite football we play has beaten me, I'm so fucking miserable I can't even describe it.
Every single player looks fucked off, the heart, drive and passion looks like it's gone from everyone at the club, and personally I think a change would give everyone a chance to revitalise and regroup, because at theminute it looks highly unlikely.
I'm really chuffed for you that you aren't here yet feeling what I'm feeling, because it's fucking awful and I want more than anything to still believe. But I'm an optimist not a masochist.

I think you go on a bigger emotional rollercoaster when it comes to supporting us than just about anyone I 'know' Andy. Nothing really right or wrong with that, but it means your opinions vary wildly, on a consistent basis, and usually come with either unyielding love, or massive hate at the flick of a switch. Just my opinion really.

I don't really want to argue with you Oncy.

BTW, what does "Snape" mean?
If by 'consistent basis' you mean 'every 12 monthly based on an accumulation of results' then I agree, it's almost to the day a year ago when I wildly swept from not thinking Rafa was good enought to thinking he was. I'm hardly inconsistently swinging from yay to nay and vice versa.
Anyway like I said, I want to believe, but I don't, a parting of ways would do everyone the world of good I think.
Regarding a new manager I'd want one who plays and promotes youth players......but good obv.

I don't want to argue either by the way, but don't make it sound like the week before last I was anti rafa because I wasn't.

"Flip-Floppy" is the correct term i think.
Well, it's better than being consistently anti-Rafa and getting banned.

I haven't got one; I'm at the point now where I don't know what to look forward to when we take the pitch, I've terminated my sports channels so I don't have to watch our shite football or Football Focus and I have to avoid texts, emails and fooking Facebook every Monday because we've lost again.

Thick and thin mate.

You can't choose when you want to support. You just do.

Menon, depressing I know, but take it on the chin and walk on mate. As Ryan says thick and thin. We have chosen to remain as faithful fans. That is our lot for the moment.

Thick and thin for the club, yes.

For the manager,no.

A lot of apologists on here have been very hard on views critical of the manager, and they've blamed everyone and everything else but him..Posters who've been unable to keep their 'rage' in check have been disposed off; and to what end?...so people stop talking how shit we are?..I don't see the logic in that; if everyone thought that way, we'd never have gotten rid of Houillier, Evans or Souness.

At least Andy had the courage to hope for a while, despite all the evidence to the contrary.

For this he's labelled 'flip-floppy'?

What's the opposite of 'flip-floppy'

To bump up another 'St. Benitez' thread?

Anyway, the loyalty shown to the manager is admirable; but the only reason he's here is because the other options are even less palatable.

Is that not the reality that we simply do not have any options due to financial constrains?

Ok, even if Rafa is a dud, what option is there?

Bring in Moyes or MON or etc as these two and a few other PL managers can manage with less money and produces admirable results, proportionally? I mention these managers because realistically, these might be the only ones we can afford.

That scenario alone is depressing enough. Ranting against our manager right now is counter productive. Taking on each other here is even worse, no matter what camp one is.

the highlighted bit is untrue for various reasons.

And as for the rest; are you insinuating 'Rage' was banned cos he was 'anti-Rafa'? If so, well that's not true either.
I think restoring us to former glory and doing one better than Rafa managed would be the incentive Jose needs.

Not to mention he'd get the "You can't do it without loads of money" comment off his back.

I think he'd take us on.
