Sometimes shit just happens. Look at Hughton. He did well at Newcastle but was harshly sacked. After a season at Birmingham (4th in the Championship; didn't make it past the playoffs), he took up the post Lambert vacated at Norwich and took them to 11th place in his first season (Lambert took them to 12 place with 3 more points the season before). This season they've been terrible but the timing of his sacking was really poor, and they're going back down.

Could well be the story for Lambert as well. Shit happens. The good ones stay the distance, or manage to stage a comeback. Some never manage to recapture their form (or aren't looking like they will) - e.g. Jewell, Coyle.

Vincent Tan's final day interview with WalesOnline

[article=http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/vincent-tan-full-story-cardiff-7103643]Who is responsible for relegation from the Premier League?

THE main person responsible is Malky Mackay, the hero of fans. They should ask why he apologises? They should find out from him.

Legally, I’m not supposed to say. I wish I could say. but I can’t. Ask him why he apologises.

His friends supported him to be a big hero, unfortunately their hero almost killed this club and I was not going to be putting more and more money in.

I am not really enjoying it, but I have responsibilty and feel responsible.

Mehmet Dalman (Cardiff city chairman) knows I am not really enjoying it now, while family members think I should sell and get out.

Why bother if people don’t appreciate it. Sometimes, though, you get into something and you have to go through it, take it to a good ending.

Why do you blame Malky Mackay specifically for relegation?

WHY wouldn’t you blame him for relegation?

He took this club to the Championship. If I had not invested he couldn’t have done it. Why didn’t he earn promotion with Watford. He was their manager for two years, finishing 14th and then maybe 16th.

When Dave Jones was here he took us to the play-offs.

Malky Mackay came here as a non-performer at Watford and I gave him £15m to spend.

I say the fans must be asked to use their heads and brains to think, not make decisions from the heart.

Sometimes, when you make decisions from the heart, you don’t think straight.

Why, though, is Malky Mackay specifically responsible?

I gave him a big budget and he spent it on the wrong people.

We were supposed to have a main striker and we signed a 20-year-old (Andreas Cornelius), paying him £45,000 a week.

We paid more than £10m. The reported £7.5m is not the right number. It was over £10m. And, guess what, he hardly started.

Why pay so much for a main striker, pay £45,000 a week, more than Craig Bellamy, and then don’t start him?

Stupid decisions. This is a manager who knows how to run a business? People ask why I am angry.

Wouldn’t you be if you hired somebody and this was the kind of performance?

The amazing thing is that they say he is a hero.

Oh my God!

Malky Mackay, though, did take Cardiff City into the Premier League...

HE took Cardiff into the Premier League – why didn’t he take Watford into the Premier League?

Cardiff were promoted because I put £15m in for Malky Mackay to spend.

If I gave Dave Jones £5m he would have taken us up.

But I wasn’t very interested when Dave Jones was here. Later I became interested.

The reason I gave £15m was that I told Alan Whiteley (chief executive), the board and management ‘if you change colour to red I will put in money and invest up to £100m’.

My total investment so far is £150m and if I don’t put in money every month this club will go into administration.

And yet not everybody is happy. Do you think I am happy?

You are a successful businessman and don’t usually deal with failure I assume (Tan laughs)

I am angry, but sometimes I like to look at things in a humorous way so I don’t get too upset. It can reduce stress.

Cardiff City need a year of stability to move forward again?

WE have no stability because of Malky Mackay. He should have walked away quietly.[/article]

That was my thinking as well to an extent, Mackay spent a ton of money on the wrong players, and then went to the press to try and squeeze out additional funds.

I wouldn't be happy with him if I was Vincent Tan either.

I hope not for their sake. I don't think he had a great season as manager but, like players, managers can have a dodgy season every now and again. I still think Lambert could be an excellent manager and they have some very exciting young players coming through for next season.

I'll make an early and possibly crazy prediction....if Villa hold onto Lambert they'll finish in the top 8 next season.

I hope he stays. He's shit and Villa are a pointless nonentity of a club. They deserve each other.
