Rafael Benitez has taken an 18-man squad to Hungary for Liverpool's crunch Champions League tie with Debrecen.
The squad that left Liverpool's John Lennon airport today is:

Pepe Reina, Diego Cavalieri, Glen Johnson, Daniel Agger, Fabio Aurelio, Emiliano Insua, Sotirios Kyrgiakos, Jamie Carragher, Martin Skrtel, Andrea Dossena, Alberto Aquilani, Steven Gerrard, Yossi Benayoun, Javier Mascherano, Lucas Leiva, Jay Spearing, Dirk Kuyt, David Ngog.

Three left backs, 4 centre backs, 3 defensive midfielders and two strikers.

Looks like all out attack then :🙂

Not much of a squad, is it? If Pacheco can't get a sub appearance here, with all our injuries, I fear for his chances of ever making it with Liverpool.

And where's Riera?

I dont think Pacheco is in the champs league squad list mate. I think Ecclestone and Amoo are because they are home grown so one of them should have got a chance.

Reina
Insua
agger
carragher
Johnson
aquilani
mascherano
benayoun
gerrard
ngog
kuyt.
4-4-2

---------------- Reina
Johnson -- Carra -- Agger -- Insua
Yossi -- Masher -- Gerrard -- Aurelio
------------ Kuyt -- N'Gog

It'd be nice if Aquilani started though.

Are you saying that's the team? God, I hope so. I don't really want to see Gerrard back on the right, but I'd be sooooo pleased if Aquilani started.

Kuyt on the right, Benyoon on the left, Mascher and Purple in CM. Gerrard and Wash up front.

All quite irrelevant though as we are out. Fiorentina will win. Sorry chaps.

INJURY LATEST FROM HUNGARY
Jimmy Rice in Budapest 23 November 2009

Rafa Benitez is confident both Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger can play key roles for Liverpool in Debrecen despite injury concerns over the weekend.
Johnson was set to play against Man City on Saturday until tests on the morning of the game revealed he was not 100 per cent.

Agger did start but departed on a stretcher following a clash of heads which left him needing five stitches.

Both are in the 18-man squad for Tuesday's Group E clash, and Benitez told his pre-match press conference: "If we decided to bring them here it's because we think they can play. We will train (on Monday night) and then we'll see.

"You know that for us it's important now to have players coming back from injury. You talk sometimes about players being available but not ready, but at least if they are training we have more options."

Another player present and correct on the plane to Hungary was Steven Gerrard following a groin problem.

He played his first full 90 minutes since October 4 on Saturday and Benitez is hopeful any injury troubles are now behind the England man.

"He was tired the other day but it was a difficult game," said the boss.

"When you are more or less three weeks without training with the team, to play 90 minutes is not easy. He was a little bit tired but I think he will be okay for Tuesday."

On when Liverpool fans can expect to see Fernando Torres in action again, Benitez added: "He is improving. We were talking before about three weeks. He still needs time but he's working with the fitness coach and physios every day. We cannot put a deadline on it but he's doing well."

Journalists from around the world were present as Benitez gave his pre-match thoughts. An Italian reporter wanted to know if summer signing Alberto Aquilani would feature in Hungary.

The gaffer said: "Aquilani is in the squad so he can play. It depends. The team has some players in his position now - Gerrard coming back and the two midfielders (Lucas and Mascherano) doing well, but he'll have his chances.

"We want him as soon as possible but we have to manage with the squad."

The Hungarian press pack were also out in force, with one journalist asking why their young goalkeeping hope Peter Gulacsi was not in the squad.

Benitez said: "We are really pleased with him. He's a fantastic keeper and a really good lad. He's doing really well but we have a second keeper in Diego Cavalieri and I'm also very happy with him.

"But we are pleased with all the players we've got from MTK Hungaria."

I don't think that Fiorentina will beat Lyon. Either a draw or a Lyon win.

And I would rest Magic for saturday, we could do without losing him for a further 2 weeks or longer. Anyone else will do. Just not Magic.

I've almost found myself hoping for a draw in the Lyon game rather than an away victory.

Somehow it would make most sense if we knocked Fiorentina out through a 3 goals margin win a home.

The Liverpool Way and all.

so lucas is keeping aquilani out? and we've bought another keeper at some point to go with the 3 or 4 already on our books.

i'd rather not be in the europa league and i can guarantee they'll be practically giving away tickets to watch us play in that competition.

Its sunday so hes got an extra day

I've said it before, but it'd be fucking hilarious if Luyon got a result in Italy and we didn't manage to beat Debrecen.

Oh, and if Barca lose to Inter and Rubin whatever they're called beat Kiev, are Barca knocked out too?

Right...

Fiorentina will be without Mutu, Jovetic and Gamberini apparently.
Fiorentina have faced Lyon 3 times in this comp in the past 15 months, lose twice and drawing once.
Fiorentina conceded 5 goals to fucking Debrecen, and 3 on Sunday to Parma.
Lyon have scored at least once in every Champions League game they've played in the last 3 years.

GET YOUR HOPES UP PEOPLES.

Hi! Me again!

Can we read anything into the fact that Vornonin hasn't even made the squad? He's not injured, and the squad's hardly full of attacking options...

He's shit etc etc, but seriously - is that it for him?
