We can just look at teams in the Premier League.
Off the top of my head:

Man U: Neville x 2, O'Shea, Brown, Evans, Keane ( Ok they're having problems too)

Spurs: Sol, Carr, Ledley, Walker-Peters

West Ham: Rio, Terry, Glenjo, Tomkins, Ridgewell

Arsenal: Cole, Adams, Keown, Gibbs, Bellerin

Chelsea: Terry, Huth, Bertrand, Ake, James, Tomori, Lamptey, Guehi

I don't know, maybe it is hard.

What do most of those teams have in common?

Instead of looking at what they've produced in the past, look at what they have now.

Apart from City, what does strength in depth look like at Utd, Newcastle, Spurs, Arse, Chelsea look like.

Utd - shit
Newcastle - there would have been a riot on here had we signed Dan Burn and Schar
Spurs - shit
Arse - White 50M
Chelsea - All fuckin useless

Maybe Quansah will buck the trend…
Wouldn't get ya hopes up mate, the guys 21 in 6 months.......

It's Lloyd Jones / Billy Koumetio / Ki Jana all over again.

At these other clubs the door is half open for these youngsters to come in....at Liverpool we've got the door closed and triple padlocked with 1 of the security alarms on top.

I guess being based in London
That guy's obsessed with London when it comes to scouting....if anything it should be harder to scout for talent in London because you're having to use up way way more resources to cover every compass of the City & also you've not just got 1 club to fend off.

You can kill that baseless argument with 2 words, or rather 2 team names. Villa & Southampton.

Well, Chelsea sold Tomori and Guehi, but they still have James.

You're right about the others.

yes - it goes back to having a bigger pool of young players to pick from.

We’ve had a few young defenders with potential that just didn’t kick on when they hit 18.

Yeah I couldn't be arsed with mentioning their players too, but tbf in Villa's case Birmingham isn't exactly a small city.

And what great young players have Southampton developed over the years?

Birmingham is the second biggest population area of the UK, isn’t it?

I remeber England winning the U17 Euros with Coady and Wisdom playing in defence. So, I guess we had high hopes for them.

I also remember Benitez buying like 10 foreign CB's and none of them made it at the club.

Ben White, Theo Walcott, Gareth Bale, Adam Lallana, Oxlade Chamberlain, Callum Chambers, Luke Shaw

After London there's about 5-6 major Cities that populate for 1-2million of the country. Birmingham and Liverpoool are 2 of those cities.

Half those players grew up in Greater London - Shaw, Walcott, Lallana.

Do the math mate - Liverpool & surrounding area population is about 1.2 million and London’s is over 12 million.

That’s pretty close to the equivalent of the population of the entire NW of England plus Wales and you could probably chuck in Norn Iron as well.

Geographically much larger.

None of it means we shouldn’t be better at bringing through young players - it just means we don’t have as many to select from.

I've been doing my own scouting and besides Colwill who we can't get and Harwood-Bellis (a City player), one names pops up.

Charlie Cresswell

Age: 20
Height: 1,90 m
Position: Defender - Centre-Back
Foot: right
Current club: Leeds
Contract expires: Jun 30, 2025

Tall, strong defender, still a bit raw. Was in the U21 squad with Elliott and Jones.
Haven't seen much of him except the Germany game in the Euro's, but he looked good. Also had a great season in the Championship.
His father played in Premier League before.

Seems like he has a bright future.

Yet they still ended up at the Saints academy....which tells you what exactly?

Where did Colwill grow up? Mount? Not in London....yet ended up at London academies.

They're scouts put in the work. Our network has left the building.

Are you really asking me why the scouts from London and Southampton are picking up players in the south of England and the scouts from Liverpool are not?

If they’re so good & “put in the work” in the south - why are they mysteriously not bringing through loads of Scousers & Mancs in their Academies?

You could add Martin Kelly & Jon Flanagan to that list - both capped at full international level by England.

Not that that’s saying much.

Nope probably not. I do feel like Kelly had it. Maybe he would have made it under a better manager.

We'll hopefully sign Lavia, and that's it. And if need be we'll use him as a CB when all our CBs are out injured by Jan, and the club will moan about finances like late opening of Anfield Road stand and reduced capacity until October and not qualifying for the CL

When you say “the club will moan”, are you projecting?

Cause I’m pretty sure John Henry won’t be whinging about how he wished he had more income to spend on ”soccerball players” at the Liverpool Red Sox.

We should try sign Luka Vuskovic, still very young but the next big thing coming out of Croatia.

Milenkovic at Fiorentina. 20m would get him.

If we wanna aim a bit higher and look more to someone who will challenge Ibou/Virgil then Bastoni.
