Gossip column talk of a swap for Colwill with Caicedo, so he could yet end up at Liverpool. It’ll just mean we pay Brighton a fortune next year.

Lovely set piece routine by the Seagulls.

Danny Welbeck 1-0

Gotta say that Chelsea kit looks nice.....proper retro.

Well. He's started a friendly for them tonight, so maybe he is a guaranteed starter now

Their Thiago’s 137 years old & Fofana’s dead - who else they gonna play?

Boehly still won’t be able to stop himself buying someone shit for a hugely overpriced fee, probably.

They'll likely plan for him to be Silva's replacement when his contract expires next summer and form a long term partnership with Badiashile.

There's so many other defenders like Colwill out there we could get for half the price Cheslea would want.

Chelsea 4-1 up here but was 1-1 before Brighton went to 10.

Colwill just given away a silly pen for a lunge on Joao Pedro & on that note I'm off to bed.

He just needs to insert the same clause in his contract that lets us buy him for £35m next summer like Mac A.

Well, Brighton only obligated that after Mac Alister ran his first contrast down and was in a powerful position during the contract talks. Colliwell would have to play for Brighton for 4 years to be in such a position, which doesn't help us in replacing Matip or Gomez in the near future.

Liverpool complete £800,000 deal for 14-year-old centre-back
While progress is being made as Liverpool seek more first-team signings, the club have completed a deal for teenage Wolves defender Harvey Owen.

This summer has already seen 10 players depart Liverpool’s academy ranks, with six released and four others sold to other clubs.

Leighton Clarkson has joined Aberdeen, Layton Stewart headed to Preston, Elijah Gift joined Athletic Club and Kerron Samuels signed a deal with Brentford.

Of those whose contracts expired, Jack Bearne (Greenock Morton), Charlie Hayes-Green (Bolton) and Iwan Roberts (Bala Town) have already landed elsewhere, while Oludare Olufunwa is on trial at Burton Albion.

Further exits can be expected as Max Woltman looks to impress with a trial at Oxford United, but there has also been movement in terms of incomings.

Owen, 14, has announced his arrival at the AXA Training Centre after seven years at Wolves, with the deal reported to be worth up to £800,000.

“Very happy to sign for Liverpool, can’t wait to get started,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Thank you to everybody who has helped me to get where I am today and just wanna say big thank you to Wolves who have supported me throughout my career.”

Who needs Colwill?!

Was just about to post that. He’d be a very good signing and potential replacement for Matip in the squad next summer.

12 mill for that type of talent is nothing.

Thought there's a typo in the fee 😱

Hey, good for him and great pick up for Fiorentina.

Why would there be a typo, he's not being signed by a Prem club to another Prem club.....Zagreb have produced talent upon talent that have gone on to be big hitters, and who has been their record sale to date? Pjaca for 15m. (not an example that's gone on to reach his full potential but still)

Thought it would be closer to £20m cos of the figures mentioned previously.
Ajax are apparently in for him too, as Timber's replacement. Interesting to see where he heads to.

Why are we so bad at producing defenders?

Granted we got Trent a few years ago but there's still a gigantic gap between him and Carra.

I've seen Wright, Warnock, Kelly, Coady, Wisdom, Smith, Robinson, Flanagan, Rhys, Nat and Neco play for us in some capacity.
Maybe I forgot someone, maybe you can add Insua too, but it doesn't look good at all.

Am I wrong? Is it just more difficult to find and develop defenders?

Chelsea are either going to keep Colwill or ask for £75M for him, so he's out let's face it. Brighton have walked away.

I think we should stick with what we have. Might come back to bite us, might not. Gomez isn't as bad as is suggested on here if we need him.

How hard can it be to find a few successes over a 20 year period, we're just incapable.....could be 1 or more of the following reasons;

A) The personnel
B) Lack of effort
C) Time rather be put to other use

When you list the horrific, truly traumatic names you've mentioned.....it leads me to believe it's mostly due to personnel. What fucker looks at any of those kids playing at 16/17/18 and think "Yeah they're the ones"

Take a club like Bayern or PSG.

Bayern - Musiala Alaba Kroos Kimmich Muller Hummels

PSG - Nkunku Sakho Rabiot Maignan Coman Simons

We can just look at teams in the Premier League.
Off the top of my head:

Man U: Neville x 2, O'Shea, Brown, Evans, Keane ( Ok they're having problems too)

Spurs: Sol, Carr, Ledley, Walker-Peters

West Ham: Rio, Terry, Glenjo, Tomkins, Ridgewell

Arsenal: Cole, Adams, Keown, Gibbs, Bellerin

Chelsea: Terry, Huth, Bertrand, Ake, James, Tomori, Lamptey, Guehi

I don't know, maybe it is hard.

For only defenders that's a fair share.

We have 0.

We're Liverpool, not some fodder side from London....we should be doing a lot more.
