Carvalho - our next signing?

I think this thread should now be merged into Transfer Rumours post, as its most likely £5m is just not an amount we'd like to risk.

Not sure anymore. Werner, Havertz, and Sancho for 200 million have delivered 4 goals and 2 assists in 44 premier league games this season. I am not sure Bundesliga and particularly Dortmund (due to the specific way they play), is a good place for attackers to train and develop.

If you are not playing against competent defenses, you will start to pick up some bad habits. Yup, Dortmund will provide Carvalho a platform, he can rack up goals and assists and probably get a 60 million-plus move in three years. But how is that worth it, if he gets used to German defenses and suddenly finds the premier league, a bit too tough to handle. Yes, he needs games but you also want to ensure that those games are against opposition of sufficient quality. Not sure you are going to learn much getting 4 goals and 3 assists against FC Pauli every weekend.

I get your point, but it's also allowed these past prospects the opportunity of earning 200k a week plus in their early/mid twenties and play in the most watched league in the world, so I doubt many aspiring players would look at the Bundesliga pathway as a flawed one.

It would only be a gamble if the top clubs lost faith in attacking talent from the Bundesliga. Whether we're at the stage yet I'm not sure.

Haaland and Bellingham will go for big money move over the next two years. If both of them fail to live up to their billing, I think we will see top clubs being reluctant to splurge top money on Bundesliga talent.

I think it depends on what level of talent you are. This kid looks elite. He can come here and given our small squad he will play 10-20 games at least next season. Might even get some European experience. If he goes to Saints, he may play more than that but will not have that experience in Europe. I don't think he needs that bump that Dortmund will give him in terms of profile.

It's depressing when the the only targets deemed "realistic" by journalists are children who run their contract down and get a fee dictated by a panel.

Aren't Fulham still pissed of with us regarding the Elliott transfer?
Or maybe we're on good terms again after we let them have Harry.

In one way it is depressing but it can be an effective strategy also. Spend the transfer monies on 30-50 million players with Salah, Mane, Jota profile. Complement the squad with talented kids who are running down their contract. If we can refine this, maybe we can become a more effective Dortmund. This might be the only way to compete with the oil rich clubs.

This. I've been struggling to figure out what they are doing, and this finally makes sense. A better version of a financially sustainable club that occasionally wins titles/cups but is more concerned about being seen as a top club.

Sad.

Sad.

The problem is going to be that the occasionally wins titles/cups part disappeared for Dortmund post-Klopp and will most likely disappear for us also. Sad but can't see any way to compete with oil clubs.

[article]Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are about to open talks with Fulham over signing Leeds United and Tottenham Hotspur January transfer target Fabio Carvalho, according to 90min.

90min have reported that Liverpool, Leeds, West Ham United, Arsenal, Tottenham and Southampton all are interested in signing Carvalho from Fulham this month.

But we won't get this lad. At least not in Jan. Fulham will want him nailed down for the foreseeable to get back the prem

Yep, the tribunal fee will be higher than anything will offer. No chance they're gambling on derailing their promotion and title bid.

So buy and loan back to them. Easy !

Now that we’re adding Diaz, it might be not a bad idea to let him finish the season at Fulham. Incorporating 2 new attacking line players mid-season might be somewhat disruptive. Although if Klopp decides to go for it, then I would trust him to make it work.

Watching him play now.
He seems to play behind Mitrovic, with hardly any defensive responsibilities.

Just assisted a goal for Mitrovic but failing to see how he fits our system. Unless he is a long term option to Firmino.

We can sell him for 30 million in three years to pay for the Luis Diaz contract extension.

The kid has so much game intelligence, skill, technique, Klopp will be able to mould him to maximize impact. He can be the CAM we have been missing since Coutinho left or a Firmino replacement.

Dont think it matters if he has played AM for Fulham. Watching the game, and its clear to see he’s a gem. If Klopp wants him he knows where he wants to play him.

Probably offer Morton and Mini on loan till end of season. Which would strengthen their midfield and attack
