would you? they need a battering ram and we need a proven goal scorer
Is that what you think Carroll is? More like a battering lamb so far for us.

I'll back the 22 year old with no serious injury history to regain his form and become a much better player than the 27 year old with serious injury history and serious miles on his leg (1st team player for 10 years now) to regain his form. Carroll is completely being written off, its really stupid, I don't really have a problem with him. He'll be fine.

I'd want someone entirely different. I have lost hope in Carroll.

WTF are you on ? Seriously.

We couldn't give Carroll away at the moment, there is no way on this earth that a Top 6 team would take him he's been that shite.

I'd have Torres over him any day of the week until he hits 65. He's not scoring the goals (yet - he will) but the way he sets up his team-mates is superb. He has more creativity in a lock of his golden hair (OK - brown) that Carroll has in both feet and attacks don't come to a full-stop because of technical ineptitude.

Yep. His touches last night were piss poor, he's got no stamina, turning ability, pace, desire. I thought he worked hard at times last night but there were occasions (again) when he should have been busting a gut to get in the box or to get to the ball, but instead he stood there static. Frustrating, lazy, unfit and not worth a third of what we paid.

I've said it a million times but Torres would be playing alot better for us and scoring goals. I'd have him back any day.

Carroll did ok in the first half. Second half didn't count. Dalglish might as well have taken him off as well. Both wingers off for 2 defenders was mental.

I was chanting, "Defend, defend, Defend defend defend" during the second half.

It worked though. The time to go for it was when we were on top, it was always going to be a smash & grab, we'd have never have dominated them for 45 minutes never mind 90. A few players up top worryingly looked knackered second half and we had no other runner in the squad other than Bellamy.

I thought that when he took Downing off for Enrique, Johnson was going to play as a winger. And again when Bellers came off for Carra, that Kelly would move up the line with Carra filling in at RB.

I don't think I've ever seen a back 6 before.

We had to defend because we invited it. It was a big gamble from Dalglish and I'd have rather seen us try to get another. If Aguero was having a better day we'd have conceded at least one. In the first half they didn't get near us.

Attack is always the best form of defence. a team playing marginally better on the night wouldve torn us a new one last night.

The team was set up perfectly in the first 45, the second was a disaster.

we really needed a bellamy on the bench whod have provided an outlet for long balls over the top etc

I have to agree. We were properly bossing them in the first half. Whilst we could never expect that level of superiority throughout the match, we could at least have tried to hold onto the ball. Still, worked this time.

I must have been watching a different game.

I thought we were well on top in the first half and 1 goal was meagre reward. Joe Hart was their best player.

There was always going to be a reaction in the second half, they are after all League leaders and packed with top class players. We held them off to the point where they had few chances (and when they did they were from our errors).

A win is a win, I'll take it over stylish draw or loss any day. Reminded me of the old days. More please.

It all depends on the next game.

If Silva comes back in and they look dangerous, sitting back when they were looking ropey might end up backfiring.

Indeed. That would have been a disastrous tactic with Silva on the pitch.

They missed yaya more than they missed silva and regardless he wont be playing in the second leg.

We missed Suarez in both halves.

It worked, we won. Credit to Kenny and the lads
He should have picked that team for the league game but at least he learned from his mistakes.
Rafa would have taken Gerrard off.

If the second half was a "disaster", how come we won 1-0 ?
Wasn't a disaster per se but it was very negative. We're very lacking in creativity at the moment

Fucks sake... the same team nearly stuck 3 past man Utd with 10 men on Sunday after being 3 down at half time.

Of course they were going to come at us and pushing on to try and get a second could have been potentially suicidal.

We got a great result.... it reminded me of the CL final days against Chelsea when we went down to theirs to give us a fighting chance in the second leg.

Make no mistake... this tie is not over... we need to get at them at Anfield.

And to answer the original question... I'd take a sack of spuds above Andy Carroll.... but Chelsea aren't going to take Carroll off our hands in this reality or any other one. Torres is far from done as a player.... although he may be best served away from Chelsea.

Sad but true.

I think I'm starting to hate Stewart Downing.
