i think you can look at it both ways. in my opinion buying torres brought no silverware so we might as well have not bought him in a way. i suppose he gave us 'star factor' for a few seasons but it doesn't really mean much.

Fair point. You could argue that he helped us to a few good league finishes, and that if we hadn't signed him we would have most likely signed someone who was not as effective but that's not really worthy of top 5 in terms of transfers.

In the Premiership I think he's got to be up there for that first season, no other striker has come in and done so well. He's tarnished his rep and believed his own hype but he was still one of the best strikers we've ever had.

One of the things he did for each player was give their nickname. When it was Sami's turn, Carra said: " 'e 'asn't gorra nickname, we're all skeered of 'im!" ;D
