Carra on SKY

He might grow into the role in time but at the moment I find it all a wee bit awkward and dull.
I also feel sorry for him when he has to work that machine with the massive pen thingy.
He's like an 88 year old woman using a Blackberry.

Im sure you and Ryan could chair a podcast and provide analysis.
It would be an instant hit no doubt there!

I'm very jealous if you lot on Sunday. Would love to meet up with everyone again. The big night in Heebies was the best night I've had in Liverpool (and there have been many)

I really like Carragher and Neville as a duo on MNF, although Carragher interrupts a little too much.

They both spend far too much time fiddling with that screen. It's like watching a neighbour demonstrate the new coffee machine they got from Groupon.

I agree, what's wrong with the old pens they used to use to draw circles?

There's a TV station here that uses a subbuteo pitch for demonstration. I shit you not.

The clue's in the word "old" IMO - "Oh look, we've got a super-duper new bit of machinery so we've just got to use it regardless". Used to frustrate the living feck out of me when I was still working. Example: each time we got new computers I swear the monitors went down in quality.

Did anyone see in the post match talk between Carra and Neville last night Carra talking about him and Enrique? And that he'd refuse to talk to him?

Yep. Confirms what we thought, the fucker doesn't listen & does whatever the fuck he wants.

I doubt it came as a surprise to many people we were looking for a lb in the summer.

I can still not believe how likable Neville actually seems.

I am not sure Carra is completely right however saying that no ones want to be a wing back. Perhaps back in the day, but as many teams today likes their full backs to bomb forward I believe it has become a more attractive position on the pitch.

If you are fast, strong and got stamina, it's perhaps the position to play in some setups?

With good reason.

Few players I loathed as much as Neville during his day at United. I thought all kind of bad about him and now he just seems like a nice lad.

I must be the United shirt, it does that to people.

I believe that an obsession with the idea of wing backs was the main cause of Roy Evans' failure to achieve much in the 1990's. He persisted with the tactic using the likes of Stig Bjornebye and Jason McAteer who were OK players but just not cut out for the wing back role which requires players who have a natural talent for the role.

It's an interesting discussion but I'm not so sure the distinction is there in terms of one style being independent and the other strict and cohesive, I think it's just more that certain rare teams can afford some luxury at CB and certain CBs have more technical ability. I was surprised to hear Carvalho thrown in there as some example of whatever new-agey CB Neville was trying to describe, I didn't see him like that at all, and for all my hatred of his dark arts, I thought he was an absolute beast of a defender, easily more influential than Terry, and very disciplined.

Each to their own. I still dislike him.

I think it is fair to say that Carra has had a fractious relationship with our FBs since the departure of Finnan. I think he instinctively disapproves of the fact that they have other stuff to do apart from defending. He talks about the back 4 as a team within a team, but the FB is also part of an offensive team with in a team with the winger and midfielder on their side of the park.

Well, I don't know him, and only seen him in glimpses mainly from clips on here, so I shouldn't say what he's really like.

He just doesn't seem 1/16 as irritating or stupid as back when he was a player. To me.

This was what I was on about in my post above, him giving Enrique a slagging. I don't mind Enrique apart from he offers nothing going forward and runs like Borat.

I can see Cissokho replacing him when he's fit.

I like the bit about saying that full backs are either failed wingers or failed CB's, and no one wants to be a FB.
